Still nothing compared to promotion. Unless we have someone literally ready to walk into the team we can’t sell him.

Think 'particularly in this league' is an important caveat. We have his style working in the Championship, but I feel fairly confident in stating that we will not have 66.4% possession next year if we get promoted. With more space, and against better defenses, a Charly becomes really important.

Hopefully they can agree a loan to buy with Chelsea for Broja.

Not sure they have the funds to commit to the fee Chelsea will want. Especially if they payment is getting delayed or is only optional

I'm actually curious how people react to Brooks given the talk about Charly/Sulemana 'making mistakes'. Brooks is a flair player. He tries things. Many of those things don't come off: his career passing success rate is lower than the seasonal numbers of every player to feature for us this year save for Mara (and 14 minutes of Joe Rothwell). He's going to give the ball away a fair bit, but he's going to do it in the service of creating chances, because that's what creative players do.

When you're watching them on a different team, you notice the things that come off and the positions they create; when they're on your team, you get annoyed that sometimes you no longer have the ball and it was their doing.

And when you watch them on another team it is regularly in highlights rather than 90 mins. It is why people argue over who is a better left back or something, the bloke they watch 90 mins of week in week out or the bloke who you probably only see getting skinned in a 20 second clip on MOTD. People always go with the guy they watch regularly even though in reality there is probably minimal difference between a lot of the players.

It will be kinda of an inconvenience should we lose Holgate as presumably too late to replace him. Expect we would just ride it out and have Charles 4th choice and hope it never comes to needing to use him there.

Are we expecting anything to happen today apart from Alcaraz officially leaving (if that hasn’t been confirmed already)?

Can’t really see much happening unless someone like KWP leaves which is a possibility I suppose, not a very big one as don’t think anyone would be desperate enough for a RB to pay what we would want.

I guess Adams as well could go but doesn’t seem like much interest in him

We are in the here and now though and it's difficult to argue against the style being massively effective given the results and performances of the last couple of months. I posted a couple of weeks ago that Smallbone is a Steven Davis type team player, very consistent at passing and recovering the ball and is a conduit for the more attacking players in the team and he is definitely worth his place in the team at the moment.

Unless someone offers 10mill in desperation for Adams, there's not much point in us selling at this stage.

This is a very good point.

Two things I would add, though, as a season ticket holders for the Wales national team, is that he also has lots of end product/tries things in the right areas.

He also has a great attitude and remember coaches talking about how much of an effective team defender he is in terms of the pressing, shape etc. I think it was after he was used in a central position to stiffle someone (I think Modric) from getting the ball with time in deep areas by getting at him.

    RM will love that.

But we also have creative players who try things, and who have a much more consistent success rate. KWP and Stuie for example. Also, it's about knowing when to take risks. Sulemana trying to nutmeg the opposition in our own area, is just wild. He might have got away with it once, but he won't every time. Likewise Charly gets caught in possession too often around the centre circle. Taking risks trying to break down a stubborn defence is one thing; but taking risks whenever one receives the ball is different.

We pretty regularly lose the ball trying to play out from the back, it’s what we do and I think Martin will have noticed, he just thinks the positives of playing out from the back out weigh the negatives, always. I don’t agree and think there are times where you shouldn’t be doing it, but hey that’s his style. But someone giving it away playing a **** ball or a hospital pass vs someone giving it away trying to dribble out I don’t think he will be overly fussed by.

He is far more concerned with players attacking too quickly so they risk losing the ball, rather have good possession so players are in position to keep the ball and open the defence up that way. Sulemana and Alcaraz both take risks which he won’t like in an attacking sense
