Thought RM had said at the start of the window that we’d be looking to bring in the Tella replacement that we also said we’d bring in in the summer. One injury to AArma and we have nothing. If you’re hunting for autos then you have to be proactive.
Well if you are counting the 3 central positions then we had 6 players before we signed Rothwell. Whereas we have no natural senior right wingers so either play Arma (who is doing more than alright!) or a LW out of position. I'd say we are much lighter at both RW & LB than CM. Downes Smallbone Charles Stu Charly Aribo
Well, I don't see the issue with bringing in Rothwell. He adds quality as well as depth and if Stu picks up an injury we have a ready made replacement. And I still think we'll bring in a RW.
Yeah, that's what I said in my first comment on Rothwell- "Don't get me wrong, the added depth there is welcome". I think he is a good signing and I don't think getting him impacts whether we get a RW or not. It would just be a strange move to only strengthen in a position we aren't really lacking in when we don't have any RW at all. I'm hoping we still get Benson, or someone else, over the line though.
Actually the article says it's in danger of stalling. But it's not a very reliable source either way.
I get the point but Stu is always on the brink of a long absence with a muscle injury, I'm not wowed by Smallbone and Aribo has had a good run of about six games since we signed him and is now away in Cote d'Ivoire until TBD. I think adding Rothwell makes sense, especially as only Stu is really an accomplished and direct runner from midfield.
I don't disagree with any of that. I like the signing, especially as he comes recommended by Stephens and Arma and has premier league experience. It's just that if I was told we would make 1 signing in this window, a CM wouldn't have been my first guess! IF we end up with Rothwell & Benson with no outgoings then its a great window.
I kind of thought we were always looking for another person to play as a number 8. But that was mostly influenced by the rumours of some of the young players we were linked with and my assumption that Aribo would be moved on I think the big assumption many are making about that signing is that it means someone will be leaving. All sorts of theorising going on about wages of Aribo and Armstrong and the like
Can't help but feel a bit sorry for Mason. He obviously came here (pre-THB) expecting to play, then THB becomes available in the final 48hrs of the window and Wilcox and Martin feel they have to sign him (right decision). Holgate starts off with a couple of howlers and is then stuck at the back of the queue. He actually had a cracking game against WBA and got MOTM, but then hasn't been seen since for league games. And now this happens... Hope it sorts itself out one way or the other. Rough season for him.
