I didn't like to say that on a football thread haha but you have for me And that is one of several elections that I would have referenced to back up my statement
I would be very surprised that if a big bid did come in for Ings we didn't accept it. That being said I also would be very surprised if a big bid for Ings did come in
We won't sell Ings for any price that we are likely to be offered. The price of relegation is far too high. I suspect that Cortese's shredder will be wheeled out of the cupboard to deal with any approach.
Not to mention that Ings is in a position different to so many of the players we've sold before..... he's been at the big club, he's been the bench player, he's now playing regularly and scoring regularly, why would he risk going back to how it was before
Hopefully his injury history will put off a lot of the big clubs, especially as the asking price must be around 40m or more.
As with all pundits (I use the term advisedly), especially when the transfer window is open, they get paid for stating the bleedin' obvious. Put simply, Danny is a successful goal scorer, playing for a club that isn't in the top six of the Premier League. In the absence of anything else, like an iota of research, the obvious sound bite is that a player who is being noticed must obviously want to be at a 'bigger' team, so put 2 and 2 together, and pronounce statements like 'To improve/better himself, Danny needs to be playing for a team higher up the league'. Then, when Danny goes nowhere, because he is HAPPY playing for Saints, the media interest goes elsewhere, and the claims are quietly forgotten. Still, it makes a change from being told that Saints are relegation candidates
Yeah this is it for me as well. Our asking price should be very high and his age/injury history would be enough to put off anyone. Everton the only team I could see who might put in a ridiculous bid as they seem to not care about spunking money.
If we sold him for a cheap amount then I'm guessing that'd be the final straw for a lot of fans. Not going to happen.
If we sold Ings this window then I think it would be the single worst sale we've ever made. We don't really score without him, plus we don't tend to play that well without him either (Chelsea aside, although he did come on). It would therefore make relegation a highly likely outcome for the season. We've done great recently but we're still very much in the fight. However, I think the main reason he won't go is because it would jeopardise his Euro 2020 place. He's well in with a shout now, and I'd be amazed if he doesn't replace Calum Wilson in the next squad. If he stays fit and keeps scoring, surely he's a shoe-in for the Euros squad? If he leaves, he risks being a bench player, or losing his form as he settles into a new team and I think his personal aim must be in making that final squad.
It takes some getting used to not being included with the relegation teams (for the time being at least*). I was reading the comments on the BBC match report last night and someone said about Spurs being beaten by "mid-table Southampton". I haven't seen that for a few seasons. *Sorry, I'm a bedwetter Saints fan..
I said a while back if we sort our defence out we are a top half team. We have some decent players going forward provided Armstrong plays who can link it all up
I'd be disappointed if this happens. Maybe I'm just desperate for it to work out as I like the look of him, but there is definitely a player in there somewhere.
