Let's be honest - not only what he said but his behaviour that night sounds pretty poor and he does need to be disciplined.

Best thing to do is sort it all internally, quickly and quietly and Vardy to apologise quickly, which he has already done, and probably blame it on ignorance of not knowing it was insulting and saying he has now been educated on it - and do this all quickly and move on. The more time that passes, the more it blows up into something bigger.

Really? Rio Ferdinand got an FA ban for what was considered a racist tweet.

He looks rat arsed and his comments were definitely meant to cause offense...

Jap is a derogatory term, as is Chink or Paki, I'm amazed anyone would think otherwise, Aussie or Brit are obviously not derogatory terms and are not comparable.

Being drunk is not an excuse - he should know better after all that happened but still acted like a twat.

I'm not going to predict what the punishment will be but it looks like as there was no police involvement so it will be all internal.

If it is on the level of the other words then the Sun should be called out for this http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/73932/Ahoy-its-Jap-Sparrow.html

Also I wonder what Okazaki would think as well...

    More ignorance than intentional racism.

Slap on the wrist and a fine and we can all move on. Nobody wins here.

I admit I didn't think anything of it but listening to Vardy, he is referring to the person's ethnicity and using that as an insult - dunno what defence you can make of that.

He was in the wrong, drink/anger no excuse even though the guy was apparently looking at his cards. Though in his defence he could have used much more derogatory words for those of asian decent.

I'm not particularly PC, but he's bang out of order on this one.

And I think he could face an FA disciplinary, players have been charged for tweeting less.

    I wouldn't say it's derogatory. Just ignorance.

Not an excuse, but I don't think he's deliberately gone to "racially abuse" him.

Yes he was drunk, yes there are much worse insults, yes it was probably due to ignorance but it was wrong and he got caught and admitted guilt.

Can see him getting fined and sent to "sensitivity training" - if the FA get involved, add being part of that Kick It Out movement and a couple of matches banned like Suarez, Rio & Terry etc got - although they all did a lot worse so won't be as long.

I'll be very suprised if he gets a suspension.

Like I said before, a slap on the wrists and a pointless fine that makes the F.A. look good is all I can see happening.

@Dorselator: Sky Sources: #lcfc Vardy and Okazaki have trained and spoken together today. Okazaki accepted apology and believes no offence was intended.

Okazaki's such a cheery bloke it would take quite a lot to offend him. I have to confess I didn't know that the term was particularly racist, although it's not one I would use myself. It's a tricky one as it all just looks like we're trying to defend our player, and clearly there should be some punishment for Vardy, but The Sun is blowing this way out of proportion and, as usual, should be ashamed of the hypocrisy of their actions.

As Thai is the proper designation for someone from Thailand, no.

Someone from Japan is Japanese, someone from Pakistan is Pakistani - using the same abbreviation is an insult in those cases because historically they were used as a racist slur.

Calling someone a Brit has never been an insult even thought the proper designation is British so that is why no one cares - in the above case they do.

Although having seen the term used by a National Newspaper in their headlines on a number of occasions, one may assume its use would not now be considered as a racist slur & was acceptable to be used.

The Sun is hardly a paragon of moral virtue but its hypocrisy is laughable.
