Personally I would take Mackie back, would sweat blood for the Rangers and also scored goals for us in the premier league, and let’s face it chaps we need goals to stay up !!!!
Derby away for 2 all, Liverpool 3:2 and flying header at City. SWP's goal at Chelsea does not outweigh those of Mackie's goals without even considering others he scored too.
Mackie certainly could unsettle an opposition defence into errors and somtimes got lucky with the bounce of the ball to create a goal scoring opportunity. He also always gave 100% effort. Look at our Wembley goal made possible by Hoilett's extreme effort in creating that cross that led to Keogh's error and that wonderful OBZ moment. Our genial laughing gnome, SWP, along with others of that era, was an absolutely awful longterm contract signing on inflated wages, a player resting on his past laurels and former glory. Wayne Routledge could have provided us with much more at a fraction of the expense. Mackie could have certainly done a job for us last season and never really clicked at Forest - I wish him all the best, even if it might be in fake hoops.
I'd love to have Mackie back with us. He's a Ranger at heart. He'd be guaranteed to come on as a sub and give it 110% and harrass the legs of a tired opposition defence and maybe create a few chances or even knock a couple in himself, which we sorely missed last season once Charlie got injured. Let's offer SWP as a swap - Mackie would take half his wages and give us twice the effort - No Brainer !
If there was any chance we could re-sign Mackie then I would certainly take him back. He also wants to come back - he said as much on the Open All R's Podcast during the closing stages of last season.
confirmed as a one year loan http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ing-sign-jamie-mackie-on-season-loan-from-qpr Reading have secured a second attacking signing in two days with the arrival of Jamie Mackie on loan from Nottingham Forest. Mackie's arrival at the Madejski Stadium comes 24 hours after the Royals secured another deal with Forest for forward Simon Cox. A minor hamstring injury means the 28-year-old will miss Saturday's Sky Bet Championship opener against Wigan but boss Nigel Adkins is pleased to have him on board nonetheless. Adkins said: “Jamie is a player I remember watching when he was at Plymouth – he is a good age, works so hard for the team and I’m delighted to get this loan deal across the line. "Both players we have brought in have experience of playing in the Championship, the Premier League and at international level and they will provide a positivity, a hunger and a desire to work hard with a group of players who have a fantastic team spirit." Mackie added: "This is a great opportunity for me. "Speaking to the manager, I know this club have a lot of really good, young players breaking through into the first team and it feels great to be part of that. "If myself and Coxy can add a bit of guile and experience to the group then that will be important this season. I'm excited to get going."
To a point I agree, he hasn't got the talent that most PL players have, much like Clint Hill. But hard work, determination, and a never say die attitude go a long way - and Hill continues to prove many people wrong. Mackie also did chip in with his fair share of PL goals - notable ones v Liverpool, Man City and I think a equaliser at home to Sunderland. Also, I would much rather have Mackie than SWP who plays in the same position.
