Also if Lampard scores 20+ goals a season you can bet your life half of them are from penalties. Picking up from a point someone said that Scholes is better than Lampard and Gerrard combined - Make yourself a Dr's appointment and ask for a check up from the neck up EDIT: Just looked back and it was Math!! Take my advice Matth
Dunno about half of them, but he certainly bags a lot. Good point tho' - if you're looking for a CM you pick Scholes, if you're looking for an AM it's a toss up between the two, if you're looking for a penalty taker you pick Lampard
You've still got to score them and it'll be a third at most on average. Has lampard ever played in a 2 with a DM as good as Keane though? Gerrard is/was an all rounder never looking to do all the hard work to let Lampard shine. I'd agree to have scholes in a 2, and both in a 3.....
Fat frank could not get into the UTD 1st XI, he is past it, has the odd good game, then has plenty of average games.
Vaguely remember around 50 of Lampard's first 200 Chelsea goals being penalties, and he has a conversion rate of around 85%. And yes, you are right that he has to score them, but then no one is denying Lampard is a fantastic penalty taker. Lampard played with Makalele for many years, who is arguably one of the best DMs ever, and Essien at his peak was probably second only to Vieira as being comparable to Keane in the PL. Tho' we'll never know how we would have done in a 2 man CM, as Chelsea always played him in a 3 man with two DM/CMs behind him. Which could arguably be seen as damning in itself - all the managers Chelsea tried and all the different tactics, players and approaches and none of them trusted Lampard to play in a 2 man CM. Personally I'd have Scholes in a two man CM, Lampard as the AM if you have a striker who'd hold up the ball, Scholes as the AM if you have a striker who'll run onto the ball. I'd probably have Gerrard as AM if you already have a playmaker, or in a free role. Personally never thought Gerrard was disciplined or specialised enough to be a top class CM - his versatility and desire to get forward always counted against him until his legs went. Even at Liverpool he wasn't first choice CM in your best seasons of recent years, and had the best impact on the right in 06 or behind Torres in 09.
Not even a quarter of Lampards goals are from penalties which is probably much less than the likes of Gerrard, Balotelli, Aguero etc
It seems that this is simply Carraghers opinion based on club and country he justifys his opinion with the amount of international goals being the reason that he just gets ahead of Scholes 166 - 106. He also mentions important goals and that's a flawed argument imo as the goals that Scholes has scored have won many trophys. Personally I disagee with Carra. Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard for me.
It's just his opinion surely? Like Zidane saying Scholes is the best is just HIS opinion. It is no coincidence that Scholes' form dropped off alarmingly once Roy Keane left. The reason being Keane was twice the player Scholes could ever dream of being. And, for all you dreamers who crack on Paul Scholes is the best United have ever had, Bryan Robson was also way superior in every way to him. Scholes was a very good player. I also happen to believe that both Lampard and Gerrard are in the same bracket as him.
Not a bad result only losing 1-0 tbh, we rarely ever beat Everton away, won there twice in the last 9 years
Lampard is a good penalty taker. And he is good at lateral passes. That's it. He is overated even for Chelsea (and that's says a lot) and he is not even in the top 30 of the premiership midfielders.
Yeh, what next, Messi is ****? Moyes best manager in the world? Carrick best midfielder in the PL? You need to stop drinking Smithy and hanging around deluded Spurs fans like Gavalaaaaaa
I wouldn't compare Lampard with Messi if I were you or Jose will scream again about the knowledge the Chelsea fans have about football... Moyes is not the best manager in the world ...yet. As for Carrick, he is vastly underrated. Hodgson quite rightly got stick for not picking him from the pundits and some now understand why Liverpool fans never rated him...
Clearly Carragher is making a fool out of himself, what a biased comments. Watching him on Sky is painful, Gary Neville is the best one at sky sports. Scholes doesn't have much influence in big games as Lampard? has Carragher actually watched him play? yeah Scholes might not have scored much goals against big games as lampard did but he is making a influence, dictating the play, creating chances, controlling the midfield, a person who never panics when on pressure, always picks out a pass to a team mate no matter how many players are around him trying to nick the ball. Carragher hasn't noticed it. Carragher is making a fool out of himself. Lampard is a world class player, i agree with that but i would pick Scholes over him any day. i agree with swarbs said, Scholes has proved he can do Lampard role pretty well at 2002-2003 seaosn when eh scored 20 goals but can Lampard to the Scholes role? doubt it.
Carragher should ask people who played with him, he should just ask Neville the influence Scholes has at big games He might not score goals in big games but he has a big influence in big games, any player who played with him would say that, Scholes has always been under-rated, the person in this thread who said Scholes has always been overrated is such an idiot and doesn't have much footballing knowledge. Carragher is just an biased scouser, what mroe would you expect from him? Next i might not even be surprised if Carragher comes out with more ****s like Lucas is better than Xavi.
I wouldn't give that thick scouser the time of day. No one can even understand what he is saying anyway so most people cannot even be bothered ...
