Sunderland AFC’s new Head of Data & Analysis, James Young, started working at the club today (yesterday) as Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ behind the scenes transformation continues apace.
Young comes with a stellar track record in analysing performance in the sports industry, leaving a senior role at management consultants Delloitte where he was working across a range of sports including cycling, rugby, sailing and gymnastics, having previously worked at football data agency Stats Perform.
Young is a graduate of one of the leading academic sports institutions in the UK, Loughborough University, and gained an FA Talent Identification Licence in 2020. He will be tasked with overseeing the work needed to feed into the evidence based decision making that is the core of the club’s new plan. He will work alongside Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman and the new Head of Recruitment, whose impending arrival at the club was confirmed in the minutes of the meeting between the club and the Fan Collective released earlier today (yesterday).
Welcome to the club, James, and we hope that this new and innovative approach will pay dividends on the pitch across all of the squads and age groups at Sunderland AFC.
