Great rider, and a double World Champion in WSBKs. When JT entered MotoGP he quickly established himself as a fast rider, and for half of his first season, he was doing excellently. Then it all went away with heavy crashes, falling out with Colin Edwards [they buried the hatchet far sooner than everyone thought though], swapping engineers, etc... Then he lost confidence in the bike and tyres. I remember saying that he was riding around and not racing.

If anyone thought MotoGP was a relatively easy step up from WSBKs then they only have to look at Cal Crutchlow, who appears to be getting more disenchanted with the pinnacle of motorcycle sport with every new venue he goes to. Sometimes things don't work out, as they didn't for James Toseland. But he leaves motorcycle racing having laid down some proper history and some great moments too.

Here's hoping he can still play the piano every bit as well.
