Poor sole, I bet he has had to suffer all of these fish puns since he was a tiddler......

Anyway a good signing, plenty of experience and versatile......:emoticon-0148-yes:

    Snappered!

Les Ferdinand has moved to snap up former Newcastle player James Perch

QPR have completed the signing of defender James Perch from Wigan on a three-year contract.

United sold him off to Wigan for £700,000 in 2013 and each of the last two seasons he has been their player of the season.

Never a world beater, nonetheless you have to wonder at the wisdom of United getting rid of this player on the cheap, considering how weak Newcastle’s squad is, NUFC still not even having a back-up right-back two years later.

His versatility was of course arguably his biggest asset and as well as playing right across the back four, he could also play in midfield.

How we could have done with a player like him when in the second half of last season, Newcastle struggled to put out any back four due to Mike Ashley selling off Mapou and Santon without bringing in replacements. Personally, I would rather play James Perch ahead of Vurnon Anita in our midfield as well, as well as ahead of Mike Williamson in centre of defence.

Anyway, 29 year old Perch has signed a three year contract at QPR and had this to say:

“Les and the gaffer sold the club to me brilliantly. They showed a great desire to bring me here, and that helped make up my mind.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of getting into the side and proving my worth at QPR.”

    QPR Head Coach, Chris Ramsey:

“James is a proven Championship performer, with great versatility across a number of positions.

“He can cover both full-back positions, centre-half and holding midfield, so he’ll be a real asset for us.”

    Director of Football, Les Ferdinand:

“We’re really pleased James has agreed to join us. We know we’re quite light on numbers in the defensive third of the pitch, so James’ arrival is welcome.

“He’s got a wealth of Premier League and Championship experience, he’s in the prime of his career, and he ticks all the boxes in terms of his quality and character.”

Is this guy going to be as versatile as a fish egg as Shrimping Net Zelic was?

All we have to remember is his goal at HQ in the Play Off semi, center of goal 2 yards out.....If he can do that a few times this season for us so much the better.....

He looks like a good signing. With him, and Furlong and Ned as cover, we have RB sorted. Now we need a good, solid and good in the air CB to replace Caulker, plus probably another CB as cover, plus probably a decent LB on loan with the 3 LB's with experience all injured, unless Kpekawa can be relied on which sounds a tall order for a kid.

Yes, that was certainly a perch of a goal, he seems well schooled with the natural ability to get into the right places at the right time.

I wonder if Wigan had made the Play-off final that year, how they would have done against Derby?

Apart from the usual bollocks about point deduction this post on Teamtalk from a Wigan fan should fill us with confidence regarding the player and person we've signed.

roaminglatic (Wigan Athletic): This one hurts. Not only another good one leaving us but going to a club that has the same future as Cecil the Lion. The lad is good, should be in the Premier League and not embroiled in the points fiasco that surely will hit them this year. I had braced myself for James leaving, after Waghorn, Tavernir and the others the players I thought would make the difference is going back up or fighting to stay in have gone inside a week. Gutted is not the word to say how I feel - all the talk of "we're richest team in the division" seem hollow. As ever I and the others will be all behind the team but in truth I am dreading this season. Good luck to James - he's a good one and Rangers fans will enjoy havnig him in their team.
