James Milner - I just don't get it.

It's a real shame Kyle Walker got injured. Think he could have made a real impact for England in this tournament.

I feel a bit sorry for Milner, it's his very versatility that is the problem, managers will use him to 'fill a hole' and he never gets the chance to develop his game in a certain position. El Tel saw the potential in him when he was in the Leeds side at 16 but he's been generally misused by all his managers since. Agree with those that say he's a good player out of form but with the season Man City have had it's no wonder, he's probably knackered...

Completely agree...will be a big player for us for sure come the future tournaments.

I think Milner is extremely hard working and clearly does what his managers ask of him. Add that to the fact that he can cover several positions and I can see why he has been included in the squad and team.

We definately are lacking some creativity - shame the likes of Joe Cole and SWP have fallen from grace (seem to have lots of creative/wide players that have dropped form over the last year or two) and we have no decent prospects coming through. I guess Cleverley and Wilshire will be the future for the middle, which looks promising? Not sure who will be operating out wide, but Roy seems to favour the hard working less flair type of player anyway...

In for his engine and the hard yards he puts in protecting Johnson, I see someone further up compared him to Mackie, I've always thought that.

England should never play a defensive winger because the FB is so bad at defending.

The best thing to do is play an attacking winger who will cause the other team to play more defensively down that side.

Not really, look at the Czech FB, he did more attacking from defence than Milner did from midfield.

It's just that Mackie gives you 10% more effort and 30% more end product.

Gebre Sellassie? I hear he's Heile rated....

Anyway - the Czechs? That would be the same Czechs that let in 4 goals against Russia and nearly threw the game away against the Greeks? Not sure you're proving your point with the best example, Flyer!

They would have lost the game without him playing, he was the best player on the pitch from either side.

I don't disagree, but his attacking efforts didn't really pin them back in either game.

That Check right back was really good, he made their 2nd goal and played well both games. I'd like to see him playing for us!

And against a half-decent side they got mullered. Greece are probably the worst team at the tournament.

but they didnt attack down his side either. He got an assist in the Greece game too.

Thats all you can ask from a FB.

Which wasnt the fault of the FB, are you suggesting that Milner would have turned that result into a draw or win for the Czechs?

No but Arshavin on the left-wing had a far better game than he's had for a long time and a lack of protection for the full-back gave him too much space. We can afford to have a more attacking player on the left as Cole, fortunately, is excellent but Johnson isn't and putting someone like Walcott, Lennon or Adam Johnson there would be a disaster.

Then play Jagielka or Phil Jones at RB, both of who can defend and let a better winger attack.

Johnson isnt causing any problems and him playing means we have to play a defensive winger who wont cause problems.

Agreed :emoticon-0148-yes: I'd like to see Walcott play there.
