the people at the top always will pass blame down to the bottom in the hope that one or two "pawns" will be enough of a sacrifice to save their own arses.

Northern ireland seems to be moving slowly forward and i hope it can find peace. I've been there and i found the people on the whole to be full of life and very friendly. I have no idea what religion or creed the people i met were, this is how it should be. My mother is protistant my father is catholic - radical, i don't think so.

I wasn't aware James McClean was asked to wear a flower to support the provisional wing of the IRA.

Acting like an idiotic jingoistic ****** isn't going to make him change his mind.

****ing hell, are we still going on about this..

It's gone from a non wearing poppy player, (a choice he is entitled to imo, even if i dis-agree with it) to a full blown tit for tat on Irish politics and events that have happened, that we can't change.

in this instance the people at the top took 38 years and two Public Inquiries before they accepted culpability.

The pawns at the bottom who murdered these people still fail to tell the truth about the events of that day. They were afforded immunity from prosecution and they still lied.

Likewise, the people of Britain are generally hugely tolerant. James McClean chose not to honour those who murdered people on the streets of his city-radical, I don't think so.

Religion is and was always a smoke screen.

Don't lose sight of the issue. This is not about a stance against the British occupation of Ireland. It is purely about a young man not wishing to support a charity that raises money for the people who killed innocent people on the streets where he lived. I am struggling to understand why some people cannot respect that choice.

Tony, i just read your comments within your previous post.

I am not sure how to respond to the notion that the nationalist community. must have done something. Maybe I picked that up wrong. Whatever they did certainly did not warrant an instrument of the state opening fire on them for no reason.

Bloody Sunday was a Civil rights march. No, not everyone had the vote. Ratepayers had the vote. People who piad rates were the homeowners. The nationalist community were unable to get jobs to enable them to own homes. This was down to state sponsored discrimination. In areas where there was a nationalist majority of people with the vote, wards were gerrymandered to ensure the nationalist community was under represented. Council homes were allocated to the Unionist community first. A volunteer police force was armed to the teeth and used as an instrument against the nationalist community. Make no mistake. This was a self proclaimed "Protestant State for a Protestant People", so when I say that it would be swapping one dictator for another, i am not exaggerating by any stretch of the imagination.

Apologies for going off topic, but that certainly frames the context in which Bloody Sunday occured and subsequently why James would elect to exercise his freedom of speech to take such a stance.

A lot of assumptions being made for why McLean didnt wear a poppy. Has he actually given a reason or are people reading his mind?

We are all just speculating but probably correctly.
**** has been done by with sides lets leave it at that.
In Jimmy Mac's defense the poppy is why used by the Loyalist community politically and in murals so being from the other side I Can see why he would wish not to wear a poppy.
