If it's true that we've used Mcarthur as a lever to get Cambiasso in then it's a piss poor way of doing business and may come back to bite us on the arse in future. Emphasis on the words 'if it's true' obviously.
Frankly I'd be amazed ... my gut feeling is that Nige would ideally like both - you need good competion (cover) for each spot and we've already seen how threadbare injuries have left us ...
I know we are trying to be sensible with the cash, which is a wise thing really, but I just think we may at times be a little to sensible. We need to spend & we need quality so may be that `little extra` will go a long way.
Wouldnt be the first time we have done it. Forced Liverpool to drop the asking price for Konch by going after Parr. Not proud of this if we dont follow this up.
This happens all the time we just don't always hear about it. Its Dave Whelan's fault for shooting his mouth off
hmmm ... not sure I agree here Proud - appears to me that all Dave Whelan has done is to state publicly that there had been a bid for the player that didn't meet their valuation and then another that did ... can't see what then makes the deal falling through (if indeed it has) his fault? ... I still think we are 'in for him' ... but won't be getting into a bidding war with Colin and the Stripey Nigels...
It's what I call pissing about with peoples careers and lives. Wouldnt want it done to me, and don't want my club to do it to others.
Dave Whelan was the one who revealed he had accepted our bid. Theres nothing wrong with revealing offers for your own players if thats what your choose to do but you shouldn't reveal the club who had made the offer. Our club doesn't comment on players who are in contract at others clubs so everything came from the Wigan end. We didn't do anything wrong in this, what we did is done by lots of clubs all the time just we don't hear about it. We wouldnt have heard about it this time if it wasn't for Dave Whelan
Transfer fall through all the time in football for 1 reason or another. Its just part and parcel of the game. I suspect James McArthur is already handsomely paid at Wigan so I don't think this will have effected his bank balance in a massive way. He still might get his move anyway with Crystal Palace rumoured to be going in for him now Nigel Pearson also said he doesn't want to sign player who don't show a desire to sign for us, maybe McArthur didn't show enough interest, we will never know so until the full story comes out (which it won't more then likely) we can't sit here blaming our club who IMO did nothing out of the ordinary
How do you know they haven't? Brighton was going to sign Paul Konchesky off us last season but that fell through and they signed Wayne Bridge. Who knows the story behind that Man U was set to sign Jeff Schlupp and didn't Things like this happens in football but we don't hear about them. Nigel Pearson is always berating agents for trying to move our players on so don't think things like this don't happen to us as they do.
Konch could not agree personal terms with Brighton. As for your comment Proud 'what we did is done by lots of clubs all the time just we don't hear about it' - if we dont hear about it, how the merry **** can you come out with a statement like that - pure speculation on your part. A fee was apparently agreed (as per Dave Whelan) and the lad came down for a medical (as per Dave Whelan). Cambiasso contacts us to say he will sign, then we dont reply to their messages on payment structure (as per Jason Bourne) - and the lad is left wondering what the hell is going on. Personally, I hope we follow this one up, cos I really rate him, but so far I am not impressed that we have acted appropriately.
We had talks over a deal but as far as we know we didn't agree a fee. We hit a injury/form crisis and recalled him
If Dave Whelan hadn't run his mouth off we wouldnt have even knew we bid for him. He used us to drum up interest in James McArthur There is nothing wrong in making bids for players and then pulling out the deal because other targets come up. We did the same thing with Craig Mackail-Smith under Sven when David Nugent agreed to sign It happens all the time
Funniest thing was George Boyd scoring for you against Forest after they pulled out because he failed an eye test Burnley won't sign him anyway as he is out of their price range
