Anyone who boos a player from their own team for any reason other than they are not trying is a moron. Simple as. Nobody can ever accuse Harper of not trying so booing him is ridiculous. What exactly are they trying to achieve by it? Do they think the player will go: "Oh hang on, I was going to play deliberately crap but now they've done that I'll show em". Also - who exactly are you booing? If a player is crap then SURELY you should boo the manager for picking him. Its his fault that said crap player is playing, not the player's fault that he is crap. The only City player I have ever booed is Matt Wicks and anyone who saw him play will know why. God I hated him.
NP rates Harper and played him for his steadying influence even when he had an injured foot. Maybe we should judge him better after a pre-season and injury free couple of games.
I have never and will never boo any of our players, however that does not stop me commenting on how he played last year. Good positioning does not mean he runs around a lot into the positions he was meant to be. I disagree he was played out of position he got into the positions against Scunny and never got near scoring. He won't be in our team next year, if he is what was the point in Mckenna really?
He had a few bad misses that stuck in people minds but I agree that we improved when he came into the team, before he turned up we were dire, there is some link there whether the Harper bashers like it or not. Saying that he's probably aware that a lot of fans don't like him and won't get behind him which is a shame, it's not like he's been that bad is it.
im also one of the few fans of JH, i genuinely believe he was a bit of an unsung hero at times, sometimes the simple ball is the best one. however next season i can see it being a partnership of mckenna and evans, evans chipped in with a couple of goals last season and, as he's only a young lad, will hopefully be tutored by koren in training everyday and becomes a koren prodigy!
Nobody mentions that - our woeful run up until mid November came to an end when Harps came into the side. He had a decent influence on the team in that defensive midfield role, actually playing a few commendable games. Ultimately he gave 6/10 performances every week from late January onwards, never really having a great game, but never a really **** game. I personally think he controls the midfield well, tackles strongly but has a surprisingly poor passing range. Missed passes gets on the fans nerves. Therefore when we were playing well and he was 'doing ok' -misplacing a few passes - Harps was made a scapegoat for when the team didn't perform to high standards. If he starts the first few games next season I will be a bit bewildered, as I can't see McKenna and Evans being left out (unless we played all three?). Harper should remain part of the squad in my opinion; he can offer something to the team, just on a part-time basis next season. I'm not saying he's an integral part of the team and a great player, but I don't think he's ****e either
Harper will be a utility player next season I think filling gaps, his passing is average like you say which is what people pick up on, but I can't say he is any worse than the likes of Marney who we had there before him
