You are joking right? We are not league 1 an more fella. Gotta play with the big boys now and pay big $ (or british sterling!!)
Thought so, as he was apparently at the medical stage with WBA before anything was heard about our involvement.
He was actually on a flight back from Austria when your bid came in, we though we might tell him to hang around at Leicester Forest for a couple of hours while we sorted things out.
Apparently, our negotiating team are in Brazil at the moment, so it would have had to be quite a detour for him. Decent signing for Pulis.
Southampton. And would you really rather have Caulker than Chester? We went down despite having a good defence, not because we needed one. He's been relegated the last 2 seasons. QPR conceded 73 goals in 38 games, 10 more than anybody else and 16 more than the 3rd worst defence in the division last season. The season before that Cardiff conceded 74 goals, which although better than Fulham's 84 (is that a record?) was still 12 more than the next best defence. I know defence is about more than just one player so it's not entirely his fault, but when someone has been part of those 2 defences it does seem odd you'd rather have them than someone who has played in the 12th best and 11th best defences in the division in those same seasons, with their side conceding 20 goals less each year, and their fans viewing them as the key player from that defence that they wanted to hang onto. Personally I don't think in your position I'd want Caulker at all, never mind ahead of someone with Chester's performance level in the last 2 years.
I am not comparing teams, just individuals and I am of the opinion that he is a better player atm and better prospect in the future then Chester. If Chester turns out to be the next Booby Moore, I will gladly eat my words but I don't really care anymore as neither of those players are joining us.
Caulker is a strange one - he looks very good and is very highly rated by a lot of people, yet his defences do seem to consistantly leak goals! Similar to when Kisnorbo came back from injury if anyone can remember that and we tried to reintegrate him into the first team - we werent really conceeding and then we put him back in to the defence and whilst kisnorbo himself looked like the stand-out player, the defence was conceeding again.
Probably no formal bid, but I'd expect there was an approach, the Yorkshire Post get their info directly from the Allams (they're about the only publication that does).
I agree with this entirely, Hull got relegated because they couldn't score goals and QPR got relegated because they kept shipping goals. I'd rather have Chester.
