I'll allow that. I know this is funny only to me, but I like to think Jack secretly has a deep Cornish accent and drinks cider down the pub every night with his dog.
Let me gatecrash just the once: On one of many trips to my beloved Cornwall, I was sat in a pub one night, quite possibly in Padstow, or Port Isaac or any number of pubs along the north coast, And there in the corner was a bent old man wearing a ruffled trilby hat with a small feather in the band, a red cravat with the knot tied in the front, a beaten old tweed jacket and watery eyes. And he was telling stories and taking questions. At last, one of his audience asked him how long he had been drinking cider. He turned and looked wistfully into the middle distance, and began to look thoughtful. I could see that he was remembering all those years of happy times in his local. Four or more pints being drunk of an evening. The banter, the friends, some gone by now. It was all coming back to him. At last he turned to his questioner and said loudly, 'All my life, young lad, all my life, and do you know what.? It has never done me any harm at all. I've never had a moment's illness. I tell yer. That's cider for you.!" To murmurs of admiration he picked up his pint and took another sup before resuming his stories.. I was at the bar waiting to be served when one of his audience came up for drinks. I pointed back to where he came. "If you don't mind me asking, what age is that old gentleman over there. He seems to be doing very well," I asked him. " What old Ben.?" he said turning back to him and smiling with affection. "Blimey, he must be at least... sixty-three".
Only the normal number, the Cornish is pretty diluted with Xhosa, Malaysian, Dutch and bit of Lancashire thrown in for good measure
Sounded creepy. You may wish you hadn't written that....so I quoted it in case you tried to delete it later.
On the matching thread on Saintsweb, most posters are on message about Jack and happy he has extended his contract, but previously some (who have gone quiet) actually thought we should dump him this season....I think purely on the basis that he wasn't Virgil. I read these comments with incredulity (couldn't reply as they don't like Yahoo users)....they couldn't seem to value a young player who had stepped up calmly into playing in the EPL when we had lost our two preferred CBs. Yes, our defence wasn't what it was last season...but we had lost VVD, Fonte, and Victor...and Forster was having a wobble. Yoshi and Jack stepped up and were counted.
