Ah players player of the season, the best award to get, voted by your peers. An award I won in 1992 for Higher Poynton 2nd X1 at Davenport golf club given away by the mayor of Macclesfield who couldn't even pronounce my name. Luckily I was pissed enough.
some did not want him out on loan again, i think it might have done him the world of good...pleased for the lad and if this club decide he is no longer needed then it looks like he has a club ready to take him.
I think ultimately the loan will have proven the right thing for everyone. He was a bit naieve, in my opinion, for us this season. I think Hawkes the same. I would like both back in pre-season to see what Alex Neil thinks of them.
That's great, I rate him and it's good to see that he's on the right path. Just goes to show what can happen when players with potential get game time. In the Donald era we were shocking at getting youth players out on loan, he didn't give a **** would rather sell them for a fiver and a pint.

Hopefully he comes back and is more mature on the ball. Be a new signing really.
Hawkes is gone permanently though.
He has the ability no doubt about it , great feet, speed, and so direct, more so than any other wide player at the club imo. his biggest drawback like so many before him, is he is home grown, it seems they have to fight twice as hard as imports, to not only get a chance, but strangely also win over a sceptical "fan base".

I am a great advocate of sending players out on loan, for a multitude of reasons, much more sense than cutting them loose " on the pretext that it is for the players best interests" it is in both parties interests to manage the transition from U23's to the first team with loan deals . No better example than Elliot Embleton imo.
Thought the lad had something after that goal at Lincoln couple of seasons ago and haven't changed my mind.

I agree mate, but I would personally scrap the u23s structure and redesign the pathway from youth football to seniors. I dont think the current u23 helps players very much at all. Everything upto u18s is well constructed and thought out in English football. Then it is a jump to u23s. U23s is pretty low level too with very little intensity or competition. You also see clubs treating it as a basis for trial players, which I think undermines the intention of it. Personally I would revert to an u21 setup, following the national team model and create a significant competition basis for that age group, which I think would be more marketable too. To be perfectly honest if at 21 a player doesnt need 1st team football somewhere, they wont at 23. The level of footballers coming out of academies at u18 now is pretty good, at least technically. U21 football should be about matchday and game situation experience and for that we need a serious competition to be instigated.

Reidy was right years ago when he said reserve team football was the best bridge from youth to first team.
He was players player, which I think is better than player of the season, and yes that is some impressive amount of goals and assists. Well done Jack.
