Can't see that...no sign of a youngster pushing Cork out. Cork is sometimes played instead of Wanyama, so Jack really is a first team starter. I bet Ron would sign him if it was left solely up to him...the reluctance to extend his contract must be to do with Les Reed. Not that he won't get one, but Les may also be considering somebody else.
If real world Cork is anything like FM14 Cork then he is after his his wages to be doubled on contract re-negotiation. If that is the case you can understand why Reed is reluctant
I don't know how accurate FM figures are but if true they suggest he is on less than what your average run of the mill premier league player is on (which shockingly seems to be about 40k a week). And as he is better than that I wouldn't be surprised if he is looking for double.
That said the clubs he was linked with are not likely to offer him that (wasn't it mainly Palace and Swansea. Think there might have been another but can't remember them)
Tbh, all the speculation is entirely fruitless. We'll probably find that Jack signs an extension to his contract at some point and that will be the end of that. Good player. Keep him. It's quite simple really.

Your reply wasn't lost on me though.
1) If Saints want to make some noise in the European Cup, they will probably have to get better before they get deeper.
2) There's plenty of reasons to think Cork won't get better. He's 25 and has a lot of experience. Odds are he is at or very near peak. It's not at all impossible that he takes a step up, but it's foolish to expect it.
3) What if we don't make Europe? What if Cork doesn't want to be a guy who predominantly rides the bench and only gets trotted out for Cup Matches?
4) What if there is in fact someone better? The club has a pretty good record with transfers. If Lovren, Lallana, and Lambert can all be replaced with players equal or better under less-than-optimal circumstances then why can't Cork be replaced?
Stop hoarding players, y'all. It's stupid, and it's a big part of the reason why some of the big clubs are having issues. If you sign Cork, you should be prepared to commit to him as a starter for at least two years. If you can't do that, then perhaps it is better for both sides to part ways.
I like Cork, but seriously we can't re-sign all of our players AND bring in better players AND bring through the youth. The latter two are critical to our success. It wasn't our choice this summer but if Lallana, Lovren, Shaw, and Chambers don't go then we wouldn't have Bertrand, Pelle, Tadic, Mane, or Alderweireld. It's amazing to me that people here simultaneously have ambitions for Saints to be some kind of European power and at the same time are too wussy to ever let go of players other than the obvious ones whose exits are meaningless considering they never play anyway.
I don't see why we shouldn't extend the contract of a regular first team player. Koeman chooses Cork over Wanyama most of the time, so what do we make of that? I see Jack is still undervalued by a lot of Saints fans, though obviously not by the manager, and hopefully not by the board.
It's not that we all want to hoard players...after all we expect Yoshida to leave without moans, but he isn't a starter. Cork is a regular first teamer...he plays sometimes when Wanyama is available, so obviously the manager thinks he brings something different to the table. If he doesn't start, he comes on as a sub. He is hardly a fringe player. One can only presume that Saints believe they can do better or at least are unsure (or they just like to piss off Alan Cork ).

I'm going to make a devastating statement now: Koeman is not Harry Redknapp. While you're recovering, I'll explain: Koeman has apparently said, can't remember when, that Cork will have to earn a new contract. Now, he isn't the sort of manager who says such things to piss players off, Ã la Redknapp with Taraabt. So my guess is, Jack is already doing enough to earn an extension, and negotiations are under way as we speak. They just don't want to talk about the details in public.
