DDOS with one person? Unlikely, unless a) they own an ISP with a MASSIVE backbone and are using it for nothing else or b) they have access to a decent sized botnet. More likely answer: the owner(s) of ja606 didn't anticipate the amount of bandwidth and server power required to run a forum for 10 000+ users, exceeded their limitations pretty quickly and are currently trying to upgrade their accounts with their provider and possibly salvage whatever's left of their data from the smoking remains of their drives! Christ... my first post here and it's not about Tottenham. Mind you, my last on 606 was only to call Michigan a ****. Can I say ****? Oh... just did.

"Apparently its a DDOS attack - anyone know what that means?"

Distributed Denial of Service.

They got overloaded, as expected.
Or perhaps twas "Joker" , with his "knowledge" of "parallel computing" (HA !!! ) .

Anyway, the metaphorical damage is done for them now.
What has pissed me off is that the WUM filter for us to use there was more or less working
(removing WUM postings from view, was looking at CSS stuff to work out how to "red line" WUM
content to alert readers of their presence etc) .

If I am to do the same here, I will have to analyse the format of the HTML etc (606 for all its faults -
had a beautifullyconsistent/concise page format) ...

DDoS attack

Short for Distributed Denial of Service, it is an attack where multiple compromised systems (which are usually infected with a Trojan) are used to target a single system causing a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. Victims of a DDoS attack consist of both the end targeted system and all systems maliciously used and controlled by the hacker in the distributed attack.
