Ki turned up every game for us last season (best thing that happened to us is that ML froze him out, in favour of JDG so he came to you on loan). Spot on, he didn't play in any of the Napoli games I watched.
JDG for me was a lazy player, who never tracked back with a 'can't be arsed attitude'. Good free kick taker though.

He was awful theng reat then awful for us - just in games he fancied - maybe it was Poyet managing him incorrectly or playing him in the wrong place - we could do with him now - De Guzman is a similar style of player though

No he's not. Ki is a stronger player than JDG on the ball and can pass it quicker and dictates the game on a much higher level than JDG. Ki also puts his foot in and tracks back with a great work ethic. For me, Ki is everything JDG isn't.

I'm a swans fan and pro JDG, as the other Swansea fans are suggesting he's not the best at defending but I don't think that was his job TBH. Attacking is where he comes into his own, in games that we was dominating he was absolutely outstanding and it was these performances that got him into the international & World Cup set up. If you are lacking creativity upfront then he'll be the perfect signing for you guys, but he does need to be backed up with a solid defensive midfielder if his attack breaks down. And for £5 mill he's an absolute bargain IMO

Yeah I thought the same about him - was trying to explain to valleygraduate what I actually meant but it's lost seemingly! He'd be playing for Sunderland I guess in a similar role to the one Ki played ergo similar position wise and style wise - he doesn;t need the defensive aspect as we have players to play that role! If we can sign him for that sort of money I'd be delighted

As I'vesaid before this deal only strengthens our need for a number 9 who can hold the ball up and bring lens aj and jdg into the games then get into the box to get on the end of things.

If that doesn't happen then Fletcher is better suited from the start

TBH I don't know what role Ki played at Sunderland but at Swansea his best form has been when he's used as a holding defensive midfielder and not an attacking player like he was at Celtic and under Laudrup so I think that's what valley is going on about.

Ki last season was one of the most integral component to our success last season this is because Ki become a true box to box player unlike JDG.

The replacement of JDG in our team is siggy not Ki, and the best we saw of JDG was when monk took over and used him in a RW/RM position in his wonky diamond formation a position now filled by Ayew,

For us he was awesome with a good holding striker like bony as well as it gave him the opportunity to make deadly runs into the box just what @DAPARKERSAFC says.

The swans fans who criticise JDG for being lazy may not like some of laudrups tactics of the attackers conserving energy for the right moment and not aimless chasing the ball all game like Danny graham did, (he criticised him in a press conference for being a headless chicken) to me that's what JDG done for us and wasn't lazy.

    That's my opinion anyway

He played holding midfielder but was never given the instruction to join attacks. Gus was that fixated in taking our time and playing it out from the back the unit took about 10 minutes to move up the pitch. Ki was wicked for us, used as scapegoat late on by those who refuse to acknowledge he was playing with an injury, this despite his operation at the end of that season. We've got M'Vila in this season, finally a player in the middle of the park who can retain and distribute.

    De Guzman rejects Sunderland?

It’s reported Napoli and Sunderland agreed terms, but Jonathan de Guzman is ready to reject the transfer.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the two clubs have shaken hands on the deal and await the all-clear from the player.

It will be a loan with option to buy that becomes mandatory for €5.5m if the Black Cats stay in the Premier League next season.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport claim De Guzman asked for 48 hours to think about the move and is leaning heavily towards a rejection.

The Dutch wide man would instead prefer a transfer to Olympique Marseille and hopes to push that through instead.

De Guzman only joined Napoli from Villarreal a year ago, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 36 competitive games.

He is no stranger to the Premier League, having played for Swansea City during a two-year loan.

Marseille is France's equivalent of Glasgow without the posh bits.
    More Algerians there than Frenchmen.

    SUNDERLAND ENTER DE GUZMAN RACE?

Sky Italia are reporting that Napoli have an agreement in place with Sunderland to loan Jonathan De Guzman.

The Dutchman would cost the Black Cats £1million for the season, at the end of which he would join on a permanent deal for £3.25million.

We understand the choice between Bournemouth or Sunderland is now down to De Guzman.

    Do we believe

    More from italian press

Another departure in Naples home, apparently around the corner. Jonathan De Guzman had asked a couple of days to reflect on the proposal of Sunderland. Apparently the Dutch midfielder is ready to say yes : Napoli developments expected shortly, with De Guzman that while the peace ...
