Why on earth is ITV 1 choosing to show Liverpool vs some Romanian side on ITV 1 and not show Dortmund vs Arsenal instead?
Might have been their choice. LFC's fan base in superior to all 3 English teams in the league (you can't deny that). Add the fact it's our first game back and you'd think our game would attract more direct fans than any of the other 3 teams. Neutrals (like yourself ) might prefer to watch 2 big teams which I agree with, but it's all about ratings and ITV may have felt we'd attract more viewers in England than any of the other 3 teams?
Looking at previous event, ITV always gets the biggest game, which mean they get first choice all the time. Guess its to do with LFC being back in the CL first time in 5 years. ITV will easily show Real madrid vs LFC game.
Terrestrial TV gets first dibs in these events. I used to study TV production and had a tutor who used to work for BBC Sport. It will all come down to viewing figures. They obviously think more people will want to watch Liverpool. Dont forget the sentiment of this game. Our first CL game since 2009.
Yeha you're actually correct, so apologies to the OP, as I got that wrong, so the bone head is me here ITV get the first choice on a Tuesday now, so they've obviously decided that the first game back in the CL for Liverpool is the bigger potential audience draw.
ITV have always had first pick of Tuesday CL games and do again this season before the rights switch to BT. I agree with what's already been said that they must see us being a bigger draw with fans eager to watch after having no CL footie for so long!
Arsenal aren’t on ITV1 tonight (a) because its cheaper for them to broadcast from Liverpools than go all the way to Dortmund, and (b) in ITV1’s sole live Champion League game to date, this term, they featured Arsenal (vs. Besiktas). They aren’t going to do so again so soon. I wonder how much ITV will patronise Liverpools tonight?!? Will the presenters be like minor Royals when meeting a military man?!?
Fair point. As for their coverage tonight. How many times will they shoehorn in 2005 in the first half an hour? The pre-match coverage is going to puke inducing for all non kopites, they should put a sychophant warning up at the start of the broadcast, as they're going to be in overdrive.
Guaranteed they'll do one of those naff features on it, because we've all forgotten what happened that day...
It's an English team in the CL, it's always going to be biased commentary. Just like they bum all the other English clubs in the competition when they play.
