The ignorance in some of these posts in regards to what caused the Hillsboro tragedy is disgusting but sadly not surprising. If you have not read at LEAST the conclusions found, and the recommendations made, by Lord Taylor's INDEPENDENT Enquiry in 1990 (http://hillsborough.independent.gov.uk/repository/HOM000028060001.html) and the 2012 Hillsborough Independent Panel (http://hillsborough.independent.gov.uk/repository/report/HIP_report.pdf) you have absolutely no business speculating (and I say speculating as that is all you are doing as you have nothing but mis-information and propanganda, and no real facts or evidence to prove your claims have any substance whatsoever) as to who or what caused a national tragedy that killed 95 LFC fans and one Spurs fan. If, like many other football fans in this country unfortunately, you don't want to know the REAL TRUTH about what caused Hillsborough because you don't really like LFC or scousers so are perfectly happy to keep believing that, despite all the Inquiries and Reports and Panels that have ALL proven beyond doubt that there was not one Liverpool fan that did ANYTHING that contributed to the disaster, then don't read the proof I've linked to above and carry on spreading your tribalistic, slanted and untrue mis-information about LFC fans & Hillsborough. What makes me so angry is that no-one on this thread will have read all the reports/inquiries above, and therefore informed themselves of the facts and the truth so they can offer an proper informed and reliable opinion on this subject. When you tell others about drunk and ticketless fans storming gates and all the other lies spread through the Right Wing press like The S*n, the Govt and the Police at the time, you are spreading LIES. Lies that you don't even have to look far to find out that thats what they are by reading TWO Reports over a few hours. Thats all the families, fans and other survivors of that horrific day ask. Don't just ASSUME LFC fans held some responsibility just because you've been lied to all these years by people who had/have HUGE self interest in propagating & perpetuating these lies. I will finish by listing a few other proven truths we now know about the tragedy and resultant cover up thanks to the 2012 Hillsborough Independent Panel: The Police, without permission from their families or the individuals themselves, took blood samples of the dead, dying and survivors. They did this as by a few hours after the disaster, the powers at the Police had decided the to blame the myth of drunk, ticketless fans. They hoped to find sky high blood-alcohol levels so they could point to this as proof of their explanation of stereotypical (at the time - hooliganism/football fans worse than animals) drunken, yobbo hooligans causing the disaster. They found no unusually high alcohol levels in any blood sample. Ticketless fans. There was, undoubtedly, some LFC fans their with no ticket hoping to sneak in. That was the norm at the time. It happened at every game. It was so common at Hillsborough for big games and FA Cup Semi-Finals from previous years, the previous Police bosses before 1989 had a whole system setup to deal with ticketless fans and filter them away from the turnstiles. This system was scrapped for the 1989 Semi at H'boro by the new Match Commander, who was WAY out of his depth and experience. Also, the Taylor Report concludes that ticketless fans, irrespective to how many may or may not have been there, could not have been a contributory factor as the number of total LFC fans in the whole Leppings Lane end was LESS than the total available capacity of the stand. The problem wasn't there being too MANY LFC fans in the stand, it was that the Police and Stewards didn't direct them away from what seemed the obvious path through the tunnel and into the central pens. There were too many fans in those 2 centre pens. The gate was opened BY THE POLICE which caused a tidal wave of fans flooding into the centre pens of the Leppings Lane end without any direction to the other empty pens. The Police Commander ordered the gate open because he didn't want kick off delayed on his first big match. If the game was delayed by 15-30 mins, the LFC fans could have ALL gone through the turnstiles causing a much smaller flow of bodies into the stand and a crush/stampede couldn't have happened. These are the very basics of the truth of what happened. PLEASE read the two Reports above and you will see the 96 and the survivors were in no way to blame for those people dying. By perpetuating these lies of what LFC supporters did, is to say I and other LFC fans killed our own brothers and sisters, which is not only disgusting and hurts deeply, but also has now been proven to be completely untrue.
I just wish for the anniversary post, all the messages had been in memory of the people who passed and their families.
I understand the sentiment, FLT. Truly I do. But as I said in the OP, the pain that the families suffered is compounded by the cover up. Until the truth is out, there will be no peace. I genuinely hope that by this time next year the families can move on, but the bitterness engendered by the lies and deceit make even this difficult.
I fully understand and can't begin to imagine that pain. My comments weren't aimed at your OP, but those that came in after. The truth must out, and I support all actions to get to it and have read a lot (actually , probably only some) of the available information and the situation was/is appalling and needs addressing. For the other 364 days in the year it should be driven really hard and I am only talking about me, which is selfish I know, but that day I reserve for those people gone.
