Understand Newcastle were allowed access to Black Cats Bar by Sunderland to ‘cover & protect’ the [HASHTAG]#SAFC[/HASHTAG] branding & artwork on the walls ahead of the derby. [HASHTAG]#NUFC[/HASHTAG] fans will be housed in the hospitality bar (£600 a ticket) & [HASHTAG]#SAFC[/HASHTAG] were worried about their property being damaged.

@SkySports_Keith
Sunderland expected the Newcastle decoration to be ‘neutral’ and were shocked when pictures emerged yesterday. [HASHTAG]#NUFC[/HASHTAG] branding has been taken down but the damage has been done. In hindsight, [HASHTAG]#SAFC[/HASHTAG] should have paid to cover the walls and artwork themselves & big OG been scored.

Depends who's done the work I suppose. If it's contracted out, I can imagine some Mag thinking "what a great opportunity to wind them up".
If its in house, then it must be someone who's over-eager and a bit wet behind the ears, who's been told "calm down the Sunderland branding to not give the unwashed any provocation to smash things up in there" and they've gone over the top with it thinking they were doing the right thing.
I can't believe that KLD and anyone else at the top level has said "make the Black Cats Bar a haven for all Mag-kind".

Yeah that's what I mean, if it was someone within SAFC then surely it was naivety as opposed to self-sabotage. If it was a mag contractor, well, not much we can do about that other than swiftly remove it once it's found out which is exactly what we've done

That makes more sense than what people have been saying.

OTR is in absolute meltdown, I've never seen anything like it. They've only just stopped short of demanding the stadium be burned down. Want the BCB shut permanently, all the staff sacked, KLD to sell up.......
Tomorrow will go one of two ways imo, either the crowd will unite as one, and when SAFC fans unite, nothing can stop us, or it will completely divide the fan base and there'll be songs/protest against 'the board', especially if we go behind. Interesting times, as the Chinese say....

I suppose I can imagine scenarios where someone has naively (but possibly well-intentionedly) thought this was a good idea.
Either way, by kicking off about it (and starting protests and demanding KLD leaves etc) it's handing the mags a PR and psychological victory before a ball has been kicked.
Imagine if this much energy was going into objection to sports washing and human rights breaches. What would the headlines be then? It’s like collective self harm

So naïvety and lack of supervision. The covers shouldn't have made it out of the wrapping.

Personally I'd have left it all up, let them smash it up and then hammer them for the cost of a very expensive complete refurb.

RTG has never been a true reflection of th match going support, it’s full of helmets and wums.

That won’t be enough for some, they’ve decided KLD put it up himself.

Whose actions (or lack of action) made a second scenario possible?

The blame only lies in one place here - the club.

Some will find any excuse to hate the club.

Sure mistakes may have been made but after the last 7 years i personally think that KLD has more credit in the bank than some would give him credit for.

Seriously appears that a few of our fans just want a reason to complain. Time they had a ****ing **** to relieve their pent up frustrations i think

Or a single person at the club
Or a Mag who had the opportunity for a wind up and did it well
Or a Sunderland fan who wanted to add fuel to the fire
Or Luke o"Nein

The bottom two don't happen until well down the chain of events.

Whoever let them in unsupervised is ultimate to blame.

"The club" isn't a single person though is it? There are layers of management within the business. Sounds like someone in the club was trusting of some contractors when they should have been more hands on

I know what you're saying.

My point is that you want people to lose their jobs because of what happened.

However, if the club decides a reprimand is good enough then it's good enough.

Whatever you think is basically irrelevant and if you think the outcome isn't good enough that's too bad.

I'm not being rude but the club run the club and will get things right and wrong.

We make an error in signage, Newcastle murder anyone they choose.

I'll stick with us <laugh>

Thats a point.

SAFC fans go ballistic when our owners have become too welcoming.

Newcastle fans turn a blind eye when their owners.......

Thats mental when you think about it.

The work was done by a contractor who works for both us and the scum but is an out and out mag so naively they let them get on with it let’s hope he’s shot himself in the foot and now only works for them

I still don't get the reason behind covering it up. I'd think people who can pay £600 a ticket aren't the ones who would do any damage. Same with the story of no red and white ties or safc pins on staff in case it causes provocation. They know where they are, they know it's our stadium, our staff, there's no reason (to me anyway) to try and hide that.

Any damage caused would be more detrimental to Newcastle as a club than us as it would show their supporters up.

100% agree with this

I think this idea just cos they’ve payed £600 a go makes them no different from the rest of them worse in some cases

Me too, its our home why should we take things down to accommodate them.
It should be part of the away day experience for them drinking in their enemies territory surrounded by memorabilia and quotes on the wall.
