I have just done a carol vorderman on my abacus and have come up with the following figures

in the last 10 seasons the
average numbers of points the promoted team in second spot was 86.4 (lets say 87 rounded up)
and the
average numbers of points the 6th place team to get to the play offs was 73.3 (lets say 74 rounded up)

bearing in mind we currently have 39 points we would need another
35 points to get to the playoffs
and
48 points for automatic promotion

18 games to go with 54 points to play for
35 points (means 11 wins and two draws and we could lose 5) or other combinations (very possible)
48 points (means 16 wins and three losses) or other combinations (seems unlikely)

the lowest total the second placed team got in the 10 years was 79 points (you never know)
the lowest total 6th place got was 70 points

so in my humble opinion i think the playoffs are a good bet <ok>

I'm away to lie down!

I think auto promotion is unrealistic - would be cool tho and shut the Sven doubters up.

Playoff place is well within our grasp I reckon, so long as we can sort out our away form!

Tbh if we got autos it would be ecstasy, because the forest fans would crawl back into bed with brian clough and all these newspapers and websites would have to get their heads from up their arses and realise that the top 6 isnt a given already. Morons

Virtually no cance of autos.

Playoffs is a definate possibility though.
