I would prefer he didn't because he is an awesome manager and you will win things under him. Its that simple.
He has a proven track record in England, unlike Pep.
In 5 full seasons in England he has won:

    3 League titles
    1 FA Cup
    3 League Cups

    7 Trophies in 5 seasons.

If we take out Jose's time with Chelsea and Real, he has more than proved himself with Inter and Porto. Something we have yet to see with Pep and to that effect, Jose is much less of a gamble than Pep. Yes, I know Jose is a bit a cock, but there really is no denying his ability to find a wining formulae.

For the sake of the club's reputation I do hope that we have not made an approach to Jose behind LvG's back and are leaving him in the dark to make a fool of himself in front of the world's press. However bad his time at the club has been he has earned the right to be treated with respect.

    Agreed.
You'd have hoped that United would have at least told LvG about their plans to replace him with Mourinho, like City did with Pellegrini.
And though i think what City have done is pretty ******ed, if United did the same and didn't tell LvG a thing, that would be pretty dirty.
I would think United wouldn't do that, I mean, once the rumour went out, you'd have thought they would have levelled with LvG if it were real, so I maybe it is lies.

On the other hand, if it were lies, I would have expected either your club or Jose to have come out and set everyone straight by now.
When asked, Jose refused to comment. And he is never usually one to keep quiet when put in front of a camera, we all know that.

But LvG is being so categorical in repeating the statement that he 'has Woodward's and the club's support' that it does suggest he has fronted them and they have denied contact with Jose. Anything else and LvG would be fobbing off the press.

More like Jose making mischief in the hope that the bad run of form continued and LvG was kicked out, that or LvG had enough at the press intrusion and packed it in at the end of the season by which time Jose's appointment was a fait accompli

Possible, but then all it would take is a statement from Woodward or someone else high up at United to set the record straight.
    Why has that not happened?

Let's not get overly sentimental here when it comes to a club replacing a manager. If United has indeed tied up the deal with Jose, LVG will more than understand when the time comes. He is not naive.

But equally, all the club have to do is announce the deal in the same way ££££ have done. Pelegrini can walk away with his head held high and the public perception is that the club have been transparent in their dealings. Don't forget we have big money sponsors who expect the club to conduct itself in a certain fashion.

    No smoke without fire.

I fear United are considering Jose. LVG was doing well earlier but needs to go. The matches against psv and Stoke (away) were new lows.

Surely when Jose comes he will have learnt from lvg about the football the OT crowd expects. I honestly cannot see him doing a worse job than LVG mark1.

I dont think anyone is upset that LvG is probably going (except maybe UiR), more they hope the manner of his exit is handled tactfully I think, and with respect to LvG, just because you haven't bounced back to SAF levels of success under LvG, no need to hate the on the guy or treat him badly.
I don't think United would do that intentionally, I think maybe there have been some meetings with Jose on the down low. But now it has all but been outed, the club either need to confirm LvG's exit, or back pedal and say "No, he is staying", otherwise it is very disrespectful to LvG.

Which were then trumped by Southampton at home.

LVG will have to win every league game between now and the end of the season and win one cup to be deemed worthy of staying.

We all thought getting fourth, when it should have been at least second, was enough for him top deserve another season.

As it goes we were wrong.

I hear you. But we are not even close to fourth as things stand. LvG shouldn't be surprised at all by all the stories. If I were him, I would expect that to be the case. After all, there are key indicators of what the club expected of me as a manager. Not staying in top three throughout the season is a major one. The board must do what's good for the club and there are no easy ways to do that without going through LvG's back. Why would you tell him you're looking to replace him? Imagine someone telling us that at work. lol

Pelegrini has a three year contract that's over at the end of the season, if I'm not mistaken. I think that changes the situation to a great extent. If LvG were in his last year, then things would be more transparent.

Sponsors? Pffft! I doubt that they would have negative sentimental feelings from change of an underperforming manager regardless of the methods.

Pellegrini has another year to go on his contract. City threw him under the bus the minute they knew Pep was available. To be fair I don't blame them. He's a nice guy but a pretty hopeless manager.

My point is, at least they told him! "Look mate, we have decided to go with someone else!".
So Pellegrini isn't stood in front of the media making a tool of himself saying everything is fine when it clearly isn't.
Like the Knight from Holy Grail. "It's just a flesh wound!"

I have limited sympathy for LVG. He's done a spectacularly **** job and been paid very well for it.

Even still, its not how a club should conduct itself.

City as a club are useless, with the money they've chucked at it they should have at least four PL titles to their name and they've got two.

It's to my continued bemusement that everyone seems to assume that they will dominate the world for years to come, it's Man City for **** sake. Their own fans clearly aren't comfortable with the concept of them being good, they might turn up in bigger numbers if they were.

The way they 'played' against Leicester is proof that replacing your manager mid season is not the way to go. Which is why United won't (hopefully) announce Mourinho if he has been given the nod. If United did the same an announced now that was happening we'd end up in tenth by the season end so they will continue with the party line that lvg remains in charge with full support and then he'll go at the end of the season.

I would also assume van Gaal has accepted this, agrees with it, and is happy to crack on till season end then retire with some thanks and dignity.

It's how business is conducted. Sadly football is now very much a business.
