It looks like we're the first to make Norris a firm(and lucrative) offer

Unless Palace are blocking him from talking to clubs. I'm sure we're not allowed to talk to players until a month (might be wrong, it might be 3 months)before the end of their contracts without the club's permission. It's a stupid rule that only applies when English league clubs are trying to sign Bosmans from other English league clubs. If we're signing from anywhere else, or our players are going anywhere else it's 6 months.

Because Norris is out of contract so the two deals are completely unrelated.

I think I would take more notice of Skysports than the local Pompey rag. It is not a done deal till pen is put to paper

It's a month, and it's any English player, foreign teams can't talk to our players either. And I think the contracts run out at the end of june, and as the championship season is finished for all but 2 teams, I'd imagine he can talk to clubs freely, Palace would have to be very harsh not to allow him to if he needed permission anyway.

Look at it his way, I'd put it similar to buying a second hand car, you don't just see one and commit straight away, you look around, see what you can get at what price, and wait and see if anything better pops up. Maybe Reading or Swansea have offered him a contract provided they get promoted.. you never know so no need to worry about it yet, I'm doubtful we'd get him anyway..

A pre-contract agreement can be signed with a player so long as he has six months, or less, remaining on his contract.

That's only for foreign players/teams isn't it? When a player playing for an English club only has 6 months remaining on his contract he can't sign a pre-contract with an English club. However, if a foreign player playing for a foreign club has 6 months remaining English clubs can offer him a pre-contract.

Possibly, it's not all that clear from the rule summary:

Bosman and all other EU football players were given the right to a free transfer at the end of their contracts, with the provision that they were transferring from a club within one EU Association to a club within another EU Association. Prior to that, professional clubs in parts of Europe (but not, for example, in Spain and France) were able to prevent players from joining another club even if their contracts had expired. In the United Kingdom, Transfer Tribunals had been in place since 1981 to resolve disputes over fees between clubs when transferring players at the end of their contracts. In addition to this, players can sign a pre-contract with another club for a free transfer if the players' contract with their existing club has six months or less remaining.

Right I think players can only sign a contract with a new club in the last 6 months of their current one. But until the last month of their contract, they would need permission from their current club to talk to others. Once into their last month they are free men and are able to talk to whoever they like.

I reckon over the course of the last few months, danns agent has been in touch with a fair few clubs, we will have said we are very keen (as I'm sure a number of championship clubs will have) and wolves may have said yes, but only if we go down. That'd explain why danns has made no decision yet.

I think we will find out within the next two weeks what danns' intentions are, whether positive for city or not.

So Wolves have told Danns we only want you if we go down, basically saying your not good enough for us whilst we're in the prem.

We are saying the opposite, sign for us now and play every game, help us get promoted and play in the prem.

I know which club id sign for... :)

Yes they can, Hibs did it with Clayton Donaldson from York. Hibs then pissed York off even more by contacting them and asking them for free tickets so they could monitor Donaldson's progress for the rest of the season before he joined them.
