It makes a certain amount of sense to introduce Lloris in the Europa League, with Gomes getting the COC games.
AVB is on a hiding to nothing. If he drops Brad after possibly his best performance for us he will get slated in the press and if he doesn't play Lloris he will get a slating in the press. A choice between a rock and a hard place. Personally I think the Lazio match will be the right time to introduce Lloris.
you're right. but how ridiculous is it? we don't need to drop Brad. it should be a case of telling him that we're going to be introducing a new keeper over time. That I'm sure he'll understand. Lloris must know he's been brought in to be number 1? unfortunately he's going to have to bed in for a few weeks. - that's the problem with goalkeepers. they are such a vital part of the team's confidence, they are either impossible to shift out of the team, or they are the easiest to drop. Brad being the former.
Ade Dembele and Jan had to start on the bench and Sig has yet to finish a full 90 minutes. If Lloris thought he was joining us as a favour to us then he's mistaken, he'll have to fight for his place like every other player.
A lot depends on the conversation Levy had when he signed. If it were me signing for a new club, I'd want to know whether I was going straight into the team or have to fight for my place. Apart from money, surely it is the most obvious conversation to have when you are negotiating.
I think the fact Deschamps said it implies he's worried his no1 won't be playing and so won't be match fit or proven or whatever. I think the comments are completely out of context, Brad's going to be around for one more season at the most, whereas Lloris has 10 years plus at the top level. Give it time, Hugo, you'll thank us for it. De Gea got slaughtered by the press in his first few games but then supposedly bulked up and now looks good except for the odd wobble. Lets give Lloris time to integrate, even just learning a bit of the lingo (Saying that, Benny, Gallas and Kaboul both speak French and being from Belgium, Vertonghen presumably knows a little bit, so Walker and Dawson are the only real one's who need to be communicated to in English in defence )
I read this much like CS has. Deschamp's trying to ensure that his keeper and captain gets to play regular football by ****stirring like the Chelsea ****er that he is. Unprofessional twat. Ok, not exactly how CS read it!
impateint spurs fans..im actually quite shocked at how impateint some are Brad will not get dropped just like Defoe did not for Ade...theres something called 'tact' it is a long season..we need all our squad onside..not disgruntled individuals who think 'fuk you' for dropping me for no reason...it seems to me as though some fans here have not played much football themselves..if they had they would understand how important it is to have a bit of intelligence about you when it comes to dropping a player. unbelievable. p.s Brad gave an interview before the first match saying he understands that we need a new goalkeepr.....due to age etc etc. Seems like everyone is wanting AVB to fail...including that ex Chav twat Deschumps and Harry's media bum boys....and worst of the bunch are those Spurs fans that bite the bait.
First, it's true I didn't play football at all. But I certainly don't want AVB to fail. However, after a first game where I found little but encouraging signs, there have been two weeks where I've found nothing but causes for worry. I'm worried about his man management, I'm worried about his determination to start two DMs and his lack of flexibility generally. I don't like how AVB handled this. I think this would have been a good time to mumble platitudes without saying anything that could get anyone angry. As for Friedel: he was fantastic last game. He's been excellent for years. But if you just made a big new signing, and the incumbent is 40 (41?), you start the new guy--though, I agree, after working out as graceful a way to do so as possible. You shouldn't have to think about it hard. If Friedel was thirty, maybe that's a different story.
Other than the fact that Brad has (arguably) done nothing wrong this season the other good reason for not making an immediate change is that Lloris will need some time to get used to the defenders in front of him - and vice versa!! We all have seen the effect that Gomes had on the players in front of him - made them almost panic-stricken at times. Brad has brought calm to proceedings. And Lloris will need to win over the confidence of Verts, Caulker et al. Yes, he's an international GK but he will have his own ways and his defenders will need some time to get used to that. Not saying it will be long, but certainly a structured intro via the EL and/or LC would be the best option - for all parties.
None of the "reports" (if a bit of blatant muckraking can be considered a report) has considered that the first time Lloris trained with the squad was the pre-match warm-up for the Norwich match...
He arrived on Friday afternoon, so wouldn't have trained with the squad then, and on Saturday we had the game with Norwich. So the first time he would've trained with them was the pre-game warm-up.
I see. The reason I asked was because I usually assume the 'pre-match warm-up' is something which happens on the pitch 30 minutes before kick-off, and also because Lloris was nowhere near WHL on Saturday afternoon.
