Yeah well we sold Mata to United so I'm not too surprised. World class keeper though and I wish him well. Chelsea legend for sure.

A bit like the situation with Cuddicini, except he decided to stay and spend a lot of his top years on the bench. Was not at his best when he joined us. For a while there you had the top 2 keepers in the league

Carlo Cuidicini was awesome for Chelsea, I felt so sorry for him when he got dumped on to the bench, and I could never understand why he wasted his career as number two when he could have really pushed on with another club.

Petr's letter to Chelsea fans is an interesting reading. He thanks Roman Abramovich "from the bottom of his heart" and completely ignores Mourinho, never mentioning his name and putting him amongst "all coaches and managers." Ha ha "the Special one of the all Chelsea coaches and managers". Looks like no love lost here.

Just read the letter and there was no mention of Maureen, interesting. He does go out his of way to thank Abe and the whole Chelsea crew. I guess Maureen isnt so special after all....

Likewise with his tweets. Looks to me like the move to us was all down to Roman's say so rather than Maureen. Not that I blame the little rodent though, I know I was livid when RvP joined United and this could possibly have as big an impact for Arsenal. As said before, not often I will praise Chelsea but I will in this instance, I just don't attribute any of that praise to their manager.

This may have been said already so sorry but Wenger deserves a huge amount of credit here. We have two decent goalkeepers in Ospina and Woj and it would've been easy for Arsene to sit back and let Cech move somewhere else, choosing to believe in the players he already had. He's had to make a tough decision by signing Cech because this obviously means one of those keepers is going to leave. But this transfer is an absolute no brainer and I'm glad Wenger went through with it.

Just watched the interview with Petr Cech.......and they were talking about that he almost signed for us when he was 18-19 years. Then he said "well hopefully now I can make up for what I missed....well, I didnt miss much ....so hopefully I can replicate what I did before"....

    Cheeky! hahaha

    Good keeper.

How good will he be without a triple decker bus in front of him though?

You make a valid point but he will certainly make a significant impact for us. He is better in all departments than all our keepers and he will give our defence more confidence.

De Gea has to play with your **** defence in front of him, and still does great. A world class GK is a world class GK.

Still going to be a bit of a shock to Cech not having 8 players near him at all times during a game

I would go so far as to say he is the best keeper you've had at this club since Seaman hung up his gloves.
Lehmann was decent, but imo Cech is the first World class keeper at Arsenal since Dave.

Totally agree, Lehmann was always liable to do something idiotic and was never in the class of Seaman, Schemichel, Cech, De Gea, Courtois, Van Der Sar or even Reina.

Lehmann was an absolute boss, totally underrated due to the odd rush of blood to the head. Top class keeper.

Cech is a great 'keeper but he benefited enormously from the defensive style of play with Chelsea. He will not have that protection playing for Arsenal and will be exposed much more often. Playing for Arsenal will be a huge challenge for Cech. His stats are only slightly better than Szczeny, factor in Chelsea defence and there is no real difference statistically. I know stats do not say everything, he has experience and a winner bla bla etc., but I think his possible impact is hugely overestimated atm. He will be an improvement, no doubt, but enough to challenge for the title? I do not think so if the team will not raise the level again.
