No, get back under that desk..... One of the reasons that QPR are so special is because we specialise in maverick players, Taarabt is the latest in a long line. When I’m making my way to the ground on a Saturday afternoon he is player I’m looking forward to seeing, in years gone by it was Stan Bowles, Simon Stainrod, Johnny Byrne or, for reasons I’m still not fully acquainted with, Gary Penrice. I’m too young to have seen Rodney in the hoops and for some reason missed out on Wegerle. We potentially have some great matches to look forward to next season and some great players to watch, Faurlin and Cisse being the standout candidates for me, but it will be Taarabt that makes me feel like a 10 year old on the way to the ground. Don’t take that away from me.
Totally agree with this. As I said, I paid a lot of money to renew my season tickets and I'd much prefer to be seeing Taarabt for my money than not!!
There's no player that polarizes opinion like that lad. If he screwed his NUT on he'd polarize no more as everyone would love him. As it is, there'll always be people who love him and people who love to hate him.
He's going on the Far East tour, Barton isn't. Draw your own conclusions. And don't assume that it's sell or give him a new contract. We only paid £1m for him and his salary is relatively modest, so its not a major 'loss' if we dont make any cash on him. He's not a big money transfer yet. Sparky may see how he performs first half of the season, offer him a new contract at Christmas or let him see out his current one. He's not a free agent until 1 July 2013. I hope he stays for exactly the same reasons Roller does, but I want to see a bit more end product in goals and assists as well.
Good point, FFS. Also worth noting that the Spuds are still in line for about 40% of the transfer fee. Anyone know if that will expire or diminish over time?
But foreign teams can offer him a contract on January 1st so its a bit late to leave it to xmas. He was quite unlucky last season, he hit the post a lot so I think his attacking will improve but hes never going to get those NPC numbers in the PL.
If Adel did want to leave we could mae him see out the final year of his contract and forgive me if I'm wrong but we wouldnt owe Tottenham any sell on money, would we? Personally I would prefer him to jb.
No doubt negotiations will be under way for a contract extension and MH will consider offers if that isn't working out. Much will depend on our other signings IMO. Why would he want to go to Wolfsburg if the money is right and the standard of the squad at Loftus Road is better? The PL remains the place to be for most of the world's top players.
I'm really not trying to be a killjoy, just saying it as I see it. I agree totally that Taarabt is an entertainer, and Roller, I used to go to Loftus Road as a lad wanting to see Rodney Marsh do something special and was rarely disappointed. But at the end of the day the most important thing was the result. The Premier league is a lot tougher than the old first division when Rodney was playing, so the questions are these, do we indulge Adel and hope he produces some magic that may win us the game, when he is just as likely to go off and sulk by the corner flag? Or do we have a player in the team that you know you're going to get a consistent performance out of and thereby increasing our chance of winning? Do we want another nail biting end to season like the last one? I'm not for one moment blaming our recent plight on Adel's shoulders, but we don't want it to happen again that's for sure. As I said earlier, if Adel could put in a shift for the team, he can do as many double somersaults in the piked position with the ball between his teeth as he likes!
H E, its totally reasonable and rational stuff you're talking here. Beware, reasonable and rational doesn't go down too well on here!
I completely understand your position and what you are saying and why you are saying it, it just isn’t what I want. Since Hughes took over the reins has Taarabt gone off on a sulk? In the matches I’ve seen we look far more likely to score when he is playing than when he is not, so I would argue that a consistent, but less creative player, would not increase our chances of winning. In many ways that is not central to my thoughts though. We are Q.P.R. We should be playing with flair and style, Taarabt currently gives us that. The tragic events of this weekend make me more convinced of this, any of us could go at any time. I don’t want to be watching dour 1 – 0 wins, I want to be entertained, I want to be exhilarated, I want to watch football in the traditional Q.P.R. style.
Oh, I'm glad I came back! I too want to be entertained, I'd hate us to turn into Stoke (no disrespect) or similar, but by the same token I don't want us in the bottom three either. Obviously, that wouldn't all be down to Taarabt, we need to score more goals and concede less, stating the blindingly obvious I know. But, in a team like ours, we need everyone to put in a shift every game, I'm not sure Adel can do that. If we had a 20-25 goal a season striker, and maybe Cisse is that man (if he can stay on the pitch long enough!) then we can afford the likes of Taarabt who may drift in and out of games. I'd be ecstatic if he scored 15 goals next season and played with all the flair and trickery he's more than capable of, but also played for the team.
