Indeed. A genuine 2 state solution is what is required, but the idea that this could ever be brokered by a Republican lead US under Trump is laughable. Yesterday’s nonsense showed the level of the current discourse. As you rightly say, it’s nothing more than a ‘well we tried’, it’s down to them now. A genuine attempt at finding a permanent solution should be lead by the UN, not some highly partisan US administration.

Iran uses the Palestinians as PR, they 'carry the fight' to Israel and 'help' the Palestinians to show all the rest of the Muslim world that they should be top dog and in control. Peace between Israel and Palestine would be an absolute disaster for them, so they make sure there isn't any by continually stirring the pot. Have someone fire a few rockets in, then sit back and watch as history repeats itself and condemn them to the world and 'stand' with your brothers.

Jew's view themselves as God's chosen. A fundamentalist Jewish state will therefore view itself as directly superior than every single different religion and their state is surrounded by different religions. The only solution is the creation of two separate states. But, as @Tobes said, that will never ever happen under this current Trump regime. In fact, under any Republican regime. This is clearly intended to play off Russia's more recent anti-Muslim rhetoric and it's working. I would be highly shocked if the "EU Three" didn't come out and support it as well. France and Germany did tag along with the UK in it's condemnation of Iran just a few days ago. Iran's ayatollah directly referred to the UK and France as stoking war between the US and themselves.
