Top 2 qualify automatically. We must be in with a strong shout for one of those. Third place goes into a playoff. We have Belgium, Israel and Andorra to play at home. Bosnia and Cyprus away. As long as we don't lose to Belgium and win 3 out of the remaining 4 we'll qualify surely.... at a guess : Wales 1 - 1 Belgium Cyprus 1 - 2 Wales Wales 2 - 0 Israel Bosnia 2 - 0 Wales Wales 4 - 0 Andorra That would give us 10 points more and a total of 20.....
With a fully fit squad we win all of those games. Credit to Coleman, he's turning us into a very good attacking and strong defensive side.
Saw post match interview with Gareth Bale- says he loves playing for Wales - what a different attitude from prima donna Giggs.
On the international stage I don't think there is a better player on the entire planet. What he is doing for his national team exceeds what is happening anywhere else. I am one of the very few who is not entirely against a UK national team (incoming bullets!) and if there was such a team he is the player that would win a Team GB the World Cup and European Championships.
All the home nations are doing extremely well (and Iceland as well, they're now one of the teams I follow lol). Group 'A' - Iceland in second place, 5 points ahead of Netherlands in third. Come on Gylfi Wales top of group 'B' with Begium away at Israel on Tuesday night (?) England have a 100% record and top their group by a country mile. Northern Ireland are second in group F and play Finland at home at 5pm today. Scotland & Republic of Ireland are both joint second with Germany in group 'D'. Scotland are at home to Gibraltar and ROI at home to group leaders Poland today. We might just see a lot of home countries in France next summer.
I don't consider the Repliblic of Ireland to be a home nation, they have as much to do with being British as do the French, Germans and Iranians.
Besides part of my family history involves that country and I am horribly biased against everything about them
My great grandfather fought with the British army against his families wishes, upon returning he stopped at the port by the authorities who were alerted by the family and sent back to the UK without a passport which was confiscated. He was fighting against a tyrant and the only reason Ireland didn't get involved is because the UK were involved on the good side. Decades later the new British based family (my grandfather) tried to establish contact to tell them he has passed away from old age, they told my grandfather he wasn't family and wasn't welcome in the village and should leave immediately. My father then thought times had changed and the new generation would be more welcoming, the younger lot still refuse to recognise us.
We can lose the Belgium game and still finish top. There is only one thing that will stop our qualification now is players being available as we have been in this position before and blown it due to clubs not letting players go saying they are injured only for them to play the next club game. We have nearly always have had good players that would give us a great chance of qualification but for some reason the manager has never been able to play the team he wants and we end up not qualifying by a small margin....If Coleman can get all his players then we can beat Belgium and win the group.....
Sad to read this , it seems the bitterness from centuries past was & is still alive and kicking .I wonder if they would have had a different pov if the Nazis had (and they would have given different circumstances ) occupied Ireland and started their superior Aryan race pogrom and all that entailed. Maybe your great granddad had a lucky break , many returning soldiers who fought on the Allied side were called deserters , were ostracised long after the war ended and treated as second class citizens refused the opportunity to work , England has many things to be ashamed of but Ireland hasn't been squeaky clean either
^^ what the fook^^ and you have the cheek 2 pick me up my bad English ........your history knowledge is fking sub standard and all if im honest
You can replace your reference to returning soldiers with Irish Catholics and it'll still read the same. Ostracised, tick, treated as second class citizens, tick, refused opportunity to work, tick, shot dead for watching a Gaelic football game in Croke Park (Bloody Sunday) tick, Forcibly removed from streets and homes by British Army and Scottish Protestants namely the Royal Irish Constabulary, aka Black and Tans. Not surprised they thought of those who killed their families and friends as traitors.
Why do you think I posted the English have a lot to be ashamed of . try reading it again, No one and I mean no one including catholics . protestants , Army ,RUC , government of all parties can admit to a glorious past over the last 4 centuries
