I honestly believe it’s not about the colour of anybody’s skin, never have, in my 62 years, it’s about the culture of the society that I live in that’s important to me, and cultures evolve depending on the dominance of people within them. The problems don’t come from colour or race, they come from when any group try to force their beliefs and values on to everyone imho, live and let live.

Aye. I’d say rich people, lords and ladies, the royal family, need to have a word with themselves.

It is from a respected Historian who has taught and studied at several universities and whose family include the former mayor of Jerusalem .

It is also highly recommended by the historian William Dalyrmple. So is a book recommended by a leading British historian also biased?

You really, really believe this - do you?

You at some time, take a stand on something or other and that’s it.
    For ever & ever amen.
    Come hell or high water.
When new evidence/news/information comes to light your stance is steadfast ?

l can only sit here and wonder that anyone can possibly close there mind in such a way.

Hamas are terrorists hiding behind the people who put them into power.
Israel are not occupying anything they handed over land once occupied by Israel in 2005.
Hamas are a disgrace and your taxes that the UK send in aid has been spent on weapons and not infrastructure.
Every terrorist cell should be wiped off the face of the earth.
    You r
Spot on the Palestinians are not ruled by Israel they are not occupied by the Israelis
Multiculturalism works if it is accepted by all parties Islam does not.

The Palestinians are indigenous to the area, the Jews, at least the Ashkenazim are a hybrid of East Europeans and old Jewry. There's no way around the displacement of the Palestinians.

Palistine in 1917 had only 4% of Jews in the population, they were Arab Jews. The Jews who are there now came from Europe because they were persecuted and not wanted. The Balfour Deleration was a way to solve a European problem by moving it to Palestine gifting some else’s land to colonize. This involved moving Palestinians off their land by often violent means.

The most significant being the Nakba in 1948 when 750,000 Palestinians had their property taken from them and forced to flee over the borders to other countries. Then laws were past to ban Palistinians who had lost everything from returning to their homes, which had now been occupied by Israelis. No compensation has ever been paid.

The land you talk about was actually land which had been Egyptian, not Palestinian. The West Bank has never been handed back it has continued to be occupied and settler’s continue to occupy more and more land, taking that land from the families who are farming it, once again this happens at gun point, they move in with bulldozers overnight and knock the buildings down with people still in bed.

If this was happening to you you would feel oppressed and occupied. You would fight for your family and your land. If you were ignored by the rest of the world you might even join a group of other likeminded friends to try and take back what has been stolen from you.

I'm really not that clued up on the history, I just wish the killing of civilians would stop. Surely that's the important thing?

Eh? Israel occupies the West Bank.

That would be the IDF then. Shooting inside hospitals, bombing ambulances, slaughtering defenceless civilians while they queue up for aid, shooting dead Christian women through the window who are seeking refuge in a church, murdering aid workers, even shooting their own unarmed bare-chested hostages because they mistook them for Palestinians.

It might be interesting to know what the leaders of Hamas were expecting, when they authorised the attack on Israel and the deaths of over 1100 people and the capture of over 250 Isreali citizens, to be used as hostages.

I seriously doubt that they expected to prevoke the response that they got.
However while the Hamas fighters seem to have suffered, the most casualties, by far, have been the Palitinian civilians.

Netanyahu must have thought that his ship had come in.

Just under 50% of Israeli's would prefer to reach a long term settlement to the problem.
Just over 50% of Isreali's support the harder approach.
This can be infered from election results over recent years.
That's democracy at work I suppose.

However, as I see it, while the biggest losers are the Palastinian people, Hamas will gain many recruits in the future, from children and young men wanting vengeance for loved ones, slaughtered by the Isreali reaction.

Israel has stoked up more problems for the future.

People are saying Israel have gone to war, they haven't.

This is no more a war than our government's 'war on drugs' ...

... it's like destroying Liverpool to drive out the drug gangs.

Approximately 600 IDF soldiers killed and anywhere between 6,000 and 10,000 Hamas fighters killed. This is definitely a war. It’s just a war full of war crimes. Although, proving war crimes is extremely difficult.
