I remember the first night of Smug's active period on here. Came on and shook the **** out of everyone. Think me, Bri and WMS got ****ing nosebleeds trying to get him to shut the **** up.

That said, once you get his humour he's cracking.

I didn't remember him from 606 as I was only on there about 6-12 months before the change and didn't know too many people.

Once I understood I began to find him hilarious!

    Exactly.

People claiming you should support France, because you happen to be in France at the time, is stupidity on a world class scale.

If it had been England playing France, last night, would I have had to support them?

I might have ended up looking totally stupid like the Mags who wore berets before their French players starting baling out.

My wife and i have been away on holiday for most world cups in various countries and i must say every where we have been all supporters share the atmosphere together and i have never seen any trouble lots of fun and cross banter gestures but never anything nasty, one memory was we were staying at a hotel where the german youth team was staying and to a person treated us in a warm and friendly manner and even kept us seats to watch with them on the screens at the hotel, even when in spain when northen ireland knocked out spain no bother ,i think this town in france needs a re think imo.

To me it's a basic question of democracy, freedom of speech & expression.

I believe it smacks of racism because it coincided with the Germany v France match.

I don't think the same decree would've been issued if it had been Brazil, Columbia, etc.

I've no great love for the Germans tbh.

However those on holiday, and therefore contributing to the economy in the south of France, should have the right to support their team.

The match also coincided with American Independence Day and there were 'stars & stripes' everywhere.

The bars & restaurants were flying them to attract Yanks to their 'parties' .......... nowt was said about that <doh>

Can you imagine hanging up an England flag in Glasgow if they were playing Scotland?
Oh lord, the sparks would fly.

I noticed during the world cup that a load of fans backing one of the African teams had their faces painted white..
