I have to say I think you can get away with almost anything provided you don't take yourself (or others) too seriously. Using the actions of a minority to have a little dig at the majority can be done tongue in cheek imo. The best thing to do is acknowledge and move on. I often laugh at the antics of our own bcos I'm not insecure about my own support. The term plastic or prawn sandwich is all part and parcel of banter.
I'm no racist and will never acknowledge it. Plastic and prawn sandwich is a completely different thing to racist. Whichever way you look at it.
I thought we were talking about branding a whole fan base. But either way, I don't think you should take offence to the racist dig either. Are you racist? No ofcourse not, so who gives a ****. Post a picture of the black and white minstrel show the next time someone references it (probably me ) and move on.
The only thing that crosses the line is references to tragedies related to any club. That's the only thing I can think of. Oh and celebrating a player being injured. You have to be a bit of a c*nt as a person to do either of those, not a football fan.
The thing is Treb, I don't think it has a place in banter, anymore than a Munich jibe. As you say, to mock tragedy is a c***s trick. Chav doesn't bother me in the slightest but racist? Nah.
I think different people have different thresholds, tragedies are a definite no no, personal/group insults such as racist are either shrugged off or taken as offensive dependant on the person. You have to know/learn when to back off.
I can see what you're saying but no right minded person would like to be called a plastic or a dipper or a bitter either. Also I don't think anyone has actually said you're a racist. It's a generalisation or stereotyping of a very small minority as a way to wind up fans.
Like I say, different people. Some may just be happy with the knowledge that they are not, and if a random person on the internet calls them that name they just laugh and know they have no better come back
Does that include branding all Chelsea fans as racist to get a reaction? To be fair, that may be more UIR and Treble's style
Of course it is, and some people use it to provoke a reaction. Sadly it works with people they don't know and never will.
