We're never going to know; whatever's happening looks poor, but then agan it was enough to convince Gordon to sign a new deal. It's not really news, because a new deal means **** all anyway unless we're entering the final few months. We'll probably end up agreeing something with a UCL release clause, as is the norm.

I do think, however, that the decision to hand Lloyd ****ing Kelly £150k a week was incredibly stupid as it could have knock on effects like contracts. And I also think we will have to sell someone big at some point and can see Isak going to Arsenal, which would be a real shame, but it'll be £100m at least.
He got that as he was on a ‘free’.

Do you honestly think that he would have been paid that much if we had paid a fee for him. In that respect it’s a distorted example. I don’t know how much we would have paid him if a fee was to be paid but obviously not £150,000.

For me, he hasn’t played enough to judge him. I’m willing to give him time first before shouting flop.

Isak has indicated he wants to stay.

All is good in the world.

He's not going to say he wants to leave, but if Newcastle don't get Europe and a big club really wants the player then there's only going to be one outcome I fear.

doesn’t start scoring goals no big club will come.

I think if he signs a new contract which is what I read earlier (could be bollocks) then we will be fine.

See I can be positive sometimes.

I don't think this is true... he'd score more goals in a better side. They'll look at his skill set not just the last what 6 games he played.

So that can be done with players but not managers? Hmmm interesting.

The Off-Topic police will be all over you for this.

It is what it is. We kept Isak when we failed to qualify for Europe this season. Not saying that will always be the case but plenty of teams keep talent. Spurs and Chelsea managed to bring in some excellent players without the lure of Europe.

5th highest net spend in the PL over 5 years, 8th highest wage bill, so expectation will probably be Europe this season 'or else'. But there's still so much dead weight to shift at this club and ideally we'd have half a dozen or so kids ready for cameos, like the rest of the bigger teams have.

Sure, my problem with it is it's only value for money if there's some sell on capability or he genuinely strengthens the squad. He's apparently not a better left back than Hall and he's not a better LCB than Burn (or so it seems), so is effectively a third choice LCB on £150k a week. Now, who else in the league is not only going to pay us money, but match that salary for a nothing of a player?

It's the Targett situation all over again. A drain on salary, a player who doesn't really get picked, a player earning more than many regular starters and for what? He can't be sold, nobody will pay his wages, so he's here for 5 years offering pretty much nothing.

In terms of PSR or even the playing squad it's yet another mistake and - I'm sorry - it absolutely reeks of Howe.

As I said I'm willing to give him more time before hanging him. Ludicrous in my opinion to write someone off after a handful of games in to his first season with us.

Also, your propensity to blame Howe for everything is again colouring your opinion. Give the lad some time. One of our best buys was Gary Speed back in the day. From my vague recollection it took him the best part of a season to settle down and become the player nearly all fans loved. There are always one or two creanks out there...<whistle>

Gary speed was always a top player

Let's be honest Isak is under contract for a while and not going anywhere unless we let him OR we get a big profit on him. Personally think he'll be here until the end of next season regardless but selling him might not be he big issue everyone thinks as we'd have £100m+ to play with.

My main concern would actually be keeping Botman - he is clearly one of the most important players we have especially when the defence looks like a sieve - and Tonali.

There were some fans wanting Botman dropped for Lascelles! Says it all.. looneys
