Should have easily won games like Leeds and Palace with the amount of chances we had though, and the amount we dominated those games. Regardless of how the team is doing and how badly we are playing, a striker should retain the ability to put the ball in the net. Wilson hasn't been doing this.
Wilson hasn't had many chances. Blaming our form on one player is silly. Wilson has been off form but so has the team. Only one player on our team can cross. Wilson deserves criticism, but the team don't create that many chances for him. We've often had to play joelinton and Willock at LW who are not actual wingers, and almiron despite scoring goals never really crosses. Wilsons been on poor form but so has the entire team, if we go on a good run and play well it will be interesting to see how effective he is.
It's not blaming our form on one player. My point is that we should have won the Palace and Leeds games easily with the chances we created, Wilson should have put some of those away. Had we won those 3 games, we'd be in 4th and only 2 points away from 3rd, and this "bad spell" would barely have even been noticed.
Spread all the results over a full season and it's a fantastic season,3 loses in a row looks bad but it's not just unlucky will the fixtures,if 2 or 3 of the 11 draws were wins those loses wouldn't have mattered, simples. ps I should have said only 2 in league of the the 3
Now that isn't strictly true, but we're not set up to operate with wingers in a traditional manner, they're inverted. It does completely and utterly baffle me though why sometimes we don't have a decent portion of a game we're struggling in, with them deployed on opposite flanks where they can beat a man (both capable) and whip a cross in (both capable on their preferred foot).
I may or may have not been being sarcastic when I said this but DAMN they really could be on for 15 goal contributions since Mid-march, down to 9 needed now in 10 games...
Betrayed ? Or Howe dropping/resting him has proved to be the necessary kick up the pants. And those suggesting he should be dropped have been proven right. All depends upon your view point.
Howe never argued that he was useless or finished mate. He wasn't good enough to play according to Newcastle fans.
My memory isn't up to much, but I ca only remember folk suggesting that A) should be dropped (which happened), B) that he was unfit (dealing with a bug of sorts) and that C) he didn't look arsed since the WC. Pretty much all 3 of those things happened / were true. Have you got anything to pull from the file to jog my memory?
Glad some have fired back at him. He played like **** for months since the World Cup. Being dropped give him the kick up the arse he needed which is what a manager wants as a reaction. Think he’s a bell end for that tweet if I’m honest.
He's been a very good player overall for Newcastle and deserved the support in a blip . A blip in which the entire side played below the new levels. The fact they've gone after him rather than saying fair enough is only a repeat offence. If they don't like it don't give it....
I actually felt Wilson wasn’t great. I mean we’re talking tap ins which even Wood might have scored and a lot of his all round play was average at best. He’s a useful squad player no doubt but he’s not the future.
