We obviously need Alan Sugar in the boardroom.
On your point about Warnock in a DOF role - no thanks, he wouldn't be able to keep his hands off and would undermine a new manager. There's enough in this squad to avoid the drop without Neil in the background. I do accept however that this is HIS squad and a new guy would have to recognise that.
The January window with fresh ideas from a new broom and a reasonable amount of financial backing from Tan would give us a great start for next season, rather than waiting until the summer to go again.
Do we really think he will walk?
If he is pushed then the club will have to take a financial penalty. How much I don't know.
A new manager with a track record including the Prem will command a much bigger salary, e.g. Hughton who looks like he's waiting for the right club and deal having apparently turned down Stoke last week. Although Arteta hasn't managed at that level he will be on big bucks in his current role.
After the Cornelius experience VT has clearly been working to a budget, and quite rightly.
Will he reconsider that to ditch Warnock, get in a guy recognised as operating at a higher level and then spend to reinvigorate the squad in the next 2 windows?

I do agree with Hilts though.. We are all doom and gloom at the moment.. If Bamba comes back into the fold and puts in a few solid defensive shifts we could be on the brink of the play offs. Give it a few more games. Granted, the tactics are pre-historic, but a few more wins and we'd be right up there.. Lets wait and see.

Therein lies the problem with getting a new gaffer in January. I've never been able to decide if the DOF role is a good or bad thing. I suppose it depends on the personalities involved. As you rightly said, NW wouldn't be able to keep his hands off.
I do believe the midfield needs to be sorted out in January as we will need to be looking at a more mobile defence coming in, the plodders aren't good enough.
I saw somewhere online (WoL?) that Bamba is being groomed to become a part of the backroom staff. Thoughts on this?

Me too Nin. Do you think they wised up or was signing Warnock just luck?
I guess the next appointment will tell us.
Trollope has credibility as a coach. He just proved he's not a No 1.The biggest problem with Hughton would be he'd want to bring Trollope with him.
Agreed remote, but there are plenty of good coaches out there. Maybe not all as good at it as him in that specific role, but plenty as part of a team that could produce fundamental change in our team selection, tactics and on pitch policy. Of course they would need to be recognised and supported by a boardroom wishing to go that way - that is my serious concern.
The key to successful future at the club is to get in now a forward thinking management team adopting policies that are miles apart from those adopted by the present regime - they've had their day in the sun albeit as brief as it was. I'm concerned this may not happen until those resposible for appointing them also change.
Let's face it, Dalman could well be chairing at The Valley right now if it were just down to his preference.
Just noted Flynn's post match comments after they got beat on the weekend.............

"Colchester deserved the three points and there's not much more you can say about it, really.
"I don't get carried away when we win and I'm definitely not getting carried away when we lose. We lost to the better team. We gave it a go, everything started well, but they deserved the three points."
