as this now goes to the final game now no matter what the result on Monday, is this the greatest race ever between two sides ? Has the rest of the league been too weak? There will be an aguero moment next week for a team I am not certain, obviously as a LFC fan the result will put a spin on this for me but is it the best?
erm.... not sure. the city and Utd last day drama probably would be most recent. the Blackburn v utd one was last day drama. ours and arsenal but that wasn't good. that wasn't the final result but the tragic circumstances. I'm sure there's several more. this has been record breaking efforts by both sides but I feel as though it needs just a final last day drama to take it historic.
I am trying to look at it through unbiased eyes A lot of pundits are saying they have never seen anything like it Dont think I have Both sides have been unrelenting Think i am falling on the side of it is the best ever race Any drama next week would nail it
tbh the never anything like it is the unrelenting wins after wins after wins. there's no drama par se bar nerves. the city games by in large have been processions. if city score early next week after new beating Leicester it'll be a mightly impressive and deserved title but it will be like 2014. lfc had to get win v city then finish job the 3-2 win was massive but the 0-2 ended it. city won all before them. there's very much the fact that it's almost impossible to see beyond us being in it. that late goal for city at end for that title v utd has to be most dramatic. this season two club have been way way way above all the rest but it's also been a bit predictable with few twists.
We've seen nothing like it. BUT this does not mean it is the best title race ever. As has been said earlier there has been nervous excitement and clearly the two best teams are slogging it to the line. The number of points collected by the first 2 wil be a record, probably not to be broken for many years. It has been exceptional that way. But the 2 teams winning and not dropping points do not make for good drama and excitement. But what it does show is the weakness of the other 18 teams. They simply have not been able to take points away from the top 2. So no drama or losses which have characterised previous races. The exceptional nature of this season's race also leads e to believe that this won't be replicated next season. It would quite extraordinary for 2 teams to collect the same high number of points again. Simply won't happen.
It's only considered one of the greatest by the fans of the club's involved. Pretty sure if we win it, Man City fans will say the ones they won were better too.
TBF when City beat us by goal difference with the last kick of the season will never be beaten. This season has been a great race between you and City but (if City win on Monday) will not be quite as close because the winner will have a points advantage.
I agree that that was probably the best so far, though you can't say it will never be beaten. This season is remarkable for the fact that two teams have so many points, and it's good that it's going to the last day. However, there's a false element that pundits keep banging on about as to how many times the lead keeps changing hands. That's really only because one team is playing before the other. If you look at it only after an equal number of games played then City have been ahead for quite a few weeks now and we've been hanging on in their wake. If there's a twist in the tail this week it might change things.
Chelsea and Spurs in 3rd/4th are closer to the bottom half of the table than they are to the top #fakeleague
Depends what you consider the best I guess. Best race as in arguably the two best teams (in points terms) relentlessly keeping the pressure on the each other. City needing to win the last 14 wins in a row to still potentially only scrape the title by 1 point is crazy. Best for drama? Not even close, despite the media trying to push this whole leap frogging points situation when it's nothing more than which team plays first or has games in hand...
in the end it's.more interesting than last year it isn't as interesting as leicesters year even though the other teams self destructed.mostly. it's not as dramatic as city v utd and the fever pitch crowds are not there like 2016 when we beat city 3-2 it's just very.... well... we don't control so.much as we find a way in games. each one feels like we are going to the well and seeing if there's still a bit of water there... the feeling is one of these times it is dry.
The race would be a lot more interesting if City lost tonight. Right now it's almost a foregone conclusion that City have won the title. An unexpected loss and people will start wondering again who might be champion.
Imo if it had been city chasing for 7 or 8 games itd have been far more interesting for the neutrals. The assumption since spurs game has been city will walk it. If we were a point up they'd all have been willing us to lose even more
It's been made artificially more interesting by having Liverpool play before Man City every week so the two of you yo-yo at the top. If it had been City moving 4 ahead and you guys having to catch up each time I think it would have felt very different. As for the best, not sure it's going to beat Man Utd thinking they'd won and then "Aggggggggggggguuuuuuuuuueeeeeerrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooo". One kick in stoppage time to decide where the trophy goes. That's drama.
That's last day / late drama rather than a race. As I said early on in this thread, it's always more interesting when your team is involved, it's usually seen as one of the best when you go on to win it.
