A personally think he's 1st goal of the season will be against newcastle in a fortnights time. hope so anyway
I agree with everything you say about him, he is passed it and Id be very suprised if he was capable of scoring tomorow. Im just saying Jol might think otherwise.
Now I go back a long way but I can not remember feeling so much excitment the day before the first game. I know I am not the only one. Has any body on here ever felt better at the start of a season?
16 hours to go. To one of the biggest seasons for SAFC I have waited for in many a year. In PDC we have a young hungry manager who, lets be blunt here, is very forthright in word and deed. The news trickling out from the club about his overhaul of the workings inside the club and increasing fitness levels have definitely pleased me. The media will of course be waiting with baited breath for any hint of scandal concerning PDC. I have been pleased with what I have heard from him when interviewed, but he is going to have to be very careful and choose his after match words very carefully. Now to the football. I thought we played great in Hong Kong in very bad conditions, excellent team performances. I watched the Danish match in the packed out Greens and was disappointed with what I saw. So were quite a few of the other patrons going by the grumblings. (What I saw was the old Sunderland turned up against a very average team.) I was pleased that PDC thought the same as me and was disappointed with the teams performance even though we won. We were calling Altidore wardrobe door, the way the ball was bouncing off him. (He then goes on to score goals for his national side which pleased me, so the jury is still out for me. I hope he has a great season to sway me even more.) Seb was doing his headless chicken act, loads of running about aimlessly. I honestly think he is still our weak link. The new signings will I hope be a breath of fresh air and I hope quickly settle into the speed of the Prem. Although I understand about the fitness levels at SAFC needed sorting I hope there's going to be some skill mixed in, thats why I was pleased PDC said Sess was in his plans for the future. It's no good having a team full of fit ****ers if they can't play footy. I wouldn't say Fulham is a must win game, but I would say it is a chance for the team to show that things really have changed at Sunderland. I want to see TEAM performances not just the odd bit of flash play from individuals. I think it will be quite a few games before we see the team fully gel but expect to see the glimmers of a team from the start. If Whickham isn't sent out on loan he owes us big time. I still haven't seen anything about him that warranted 8 million pound being spent on him. As a footballing experiment this could be the greatest thing to have happened at Sunderland in my life time. (It could also be the biggest train wreck ever seen in the Prem.) I haven't looked forward to a season this much for years. No matter what happens success or failure, it wont be without definite highs. Oh and we wont just go quietly into the night, we will go with a bang. I also feel a cup run could be on the cards. The money we have spent over the last decade should have had us a comfortable top half team, imho. Only bad management has held us back. Bruce tactically inept and MON looked like he had lost his passion for the game. I seem to say this every year about we should be top half finishers after the money spent. For this first season under PDC as long as we are no where near relegation come squeeky bum time, I will be a happy Mackem. As it stands I think PDC could be the best thing that has happened to SAFC for a very long time. And no matter what it sure as hell is going to be one hell of a ride.
Washy, you should know better. SAFC can build us up and then very easily drop us in the sh*te as they have done regularly for the last 40 odd years. I do however share your enthusiasm and cannot wait until 3pm tomorrow. Will have supped a swift gallon by then and be full of bravado and confidence. Enjoy your gargle in the Isis, fab pub.
Match is on at 7am here in Portland. Bacon Sarnie and a couple of eggs! HaaaaaaawayHaaawayyyyHaywaaaayyyyyyyyy
