confirmed on Batto `s fb page57 minutes ago Another oneee !! Almen "Il professore" ABDI... And now every body haaappy !!!! Come on Watford....
So last season the journo's (and a manager) slated us for the amount of loans we had, this season coming it will be ' The amount of foreign players Watford have ' The ironic thing though, is that if we get promoted all the media bashing and jealousy will stop, because the prem is full of foreign players. I swear football is more two faced than politics!!
I disagree, Mitch. If we get promoted we will be bashed for the multiple team ownership of the Pozzos. I think we have become the new team to hate. The only way to change that is by playing exciting, attractive football over a number of years. We have, of course, been here before when we were, supposedly, a long ball team.
They probably won't really care in the Premier league but you are right Mitch - no-one should be able to complain about the number of overseas players!
The main bone of contention by people outside Watford WAS the amount of loan players brought in. Happy to admit I was one of the critics. How many Watford people can honestly say THEY wouldnt have had a moan had it been any other club...dont think that'll ever be revealed. Theres a different complexion on things now tho assuming the club eventually confirm the permanent signings (they'll only admit to one GK signing as of now). Even I wont moan(!) if this all comes to pass, but yes in particular avid England Team supporters are bound to say foreign players affect the quality of the national team, and would be understandable if the young home growns on Watfords books wonder what future they now have at the club.HOWEVER,I believe the majority of us Club Supporters will admit we'll put club before country.
I must admit that I feel much happier now that the players have actually signed for Watford. I was able to accept the fact that there just wasn't time after the takeover to sort everything out that Baz had left behind. If you needed any confirmation about the shortage of time just look at the lack of pre-season training. What worried me most was the effect of paying all the players we had, Duxberry confirmed that we were paying all their wages, but not having anything to show on the balance sheet as players worth to Watford. That has been sorted out now, but we will probably never know what nominal fees we have paid, and how someone who cost x suddenly becomes valued at y. I guess the Pozzos know far better than I do how this can work. oldnick talked about stability for the club in one or two of his previous posts, and I hope that yesterday's signings have dealt with the playing side of things, although I am sure there are more yet to come. It really seems from the outside that the owners will do whatever they can to get promoted this season, and maybe this will put more pressure on GFZ. The Pozzos have talked about stadium improvements and the fact that a long term deal has been done to actually finish the SW corner indicates that there is no intention to move, just work with what we have. As some of us know a new East Stand is not going to appear overnight, the site problems are too difficult if not impossible. The second half of last season attendance figures were getting close to the 15,000 average and with the increase in season ticket sales for the coming one I would be very surprised if no serious planning to build the stand were not being considered. With GFZ running things on the pitch I think his record suggests that if a young player is good enough he will get a chance to show what he can do. One of the youngsters out at in Italy has said how much he is learning just by training with so many good players. I would suggest that this is a better way of developing talent rather than playing against similar youngsters in the league that has been set up.
IF, and it's a huge if as I believe the Championship this season coming will be as difficult to get out of as last season, we get promoted, what it will start is the issue of someone owning multiple clubs across Europe. issue is if say Udi and Granada both make it into the Europa league, there is a potential conflict of interest. But a lot of games to get through before that starts to rear it's head..
