i like Reds idea we could expand it and say for instance that the bowler could choose to bowl at more than one race of the batsman choice but runs will be awarded at a premium if the bowler does not get the batsman out ie if the bowler chooses to play each over (RACE) and does not get the batsman out points are doubled, or if the bowler gets the batsman out 1st go then he is rewarded with more points, this would mean that all the team would decided who should bowl and who should bat and make it more of a team game maybe stay frosty
What I'm struggling with at the moment is the sequence of events (eg when the next batsman goes in, when the next bowler bowls). How long should a match last? From experience we don't want it to drag on too long as interest quickly wanes. Is it to be interactive or are all selections to be made up front? If we can get these fundamentals sorted I might be able to work out something. I don't have a problem with comparing finishing positions provided only those registered in the RP Runners Index count and we have rulings for those that don't finish and NRs.
The problem I have is still with umpires. I know damn well that Mr.Cyclonic will be one end, and Mr.Tamerlo the other. Now, please take it from me, these two gentlemen walk around all day long with a finger (which one I don't know) in the air, and so batsmen will have little chance and few runs will be scored. As, in all modesty, I had as a young man experience in the art of cricket umpiring, I would have humbly put my name forward. However, nowadays I'm half-asleep all the time, sad to say. So, I repeat, I must ask to be included out of this tournament. Which will be a godsend, of course.
Never in the history of my personal involvement with the great game, have I ever taken a bung. But as I grow older, I find my ethical outlook on life is beginning to give way to pragmatism. If a dodgy decision can upgrade my 42 inch tv to a 50, then so be it.
