That's true. Didn't realise Torres had played quite so much for ATM before he came to us - 214 appearances for them compared to 80odd that Sturridge had played. Just shows how much football Sturridge missed in those first few years. Guess he's trying to make up for lost time <ok>

  2. Nope, never heard of him so had no opinion <ok>

  3. Torres had played a lot more for his country too. However, Shevchenko, Veron, etc had a hell of a lot more than both Torres and Sturridge combined but couldn't hack the Premier League. Swings and roundabouts <ok>

Yup. You don't become the most prolific scorer in your debut season if you aren't a good player which was my original point.

Danny was frustrated at not getting enough game time, which is why I think he gained a reputation for being a bit of a nark ( that and his permanently grumpy expression).
It's why he wanted to leave and why he says he's grateful to LFC for giving him the opportunity to express himself. It shows in the way he plays, but I think the facial expression's stuck. :)

    Torres for me,

the minute i saw him score that worldie against Blackburn i thought **** me we have a player who can literally score from anything, have never felt that way with sturridge, although yes he has scored some quality goals.

is all down to personnel preference but torres for me.

Sturridge's "greediness" it's highlighted due to former reputation which will never truly be shaken even if he created 30 assists a season.

Torres was the better striker in theory, but I'm very happy with Sturridge right now and I feel he fits perfectly in to our team, and I'm more than happy for him to replace Suarez as our main forward if he buggers off this Summer.

Torres was a complete striker but so is Sturridge. Torres also relied heavily on pace; Sturridge has a lot going for him.. Vision, control, speed, skill and hold-up play and let's not forget his work-rate for the team since joining, the lad just can't break away from his unjust reputation. I do feel that if Sturridge was Brazilian/Spanish he'd be much more highly rated and love amongst us and England.

I guess my only criticism of Sturridge is that he's too one footed, but that's ok seeing as his left is immense. <cheers>

Hard to call. I would probably go with Torres though, although the Sturridge stats and his recent record are incredible. Torres just seemed the complete striker. I think Sturridge will reach that level and perhaps eclipse it in time.

I don't buy into the fact Torres was playing in a less attacking team. He had Gerrard in his prime (absolute world class) feeding him goals on a plate. For me that is one of the main reasons he failed at Chelsea, they had no one like Gerrard who had a special understanding with Torres, also the reason Chelsea came back in to try and buy Gerrard.

But - Torres is my answer <ok>

Torres at Chelsea has been asked to do more of what Sterling does for Liverpool.....and he's not that great at it.

As an out and out striker, with the entire team set up to counter and feed his runs, Torres was supreme.

We are a totally different type of team than that, so it's hard to compare tbh.....But given that he's our player now, still very young and has a better record in goals and much better record in assists, I'll go for Sturridge.

  16. The tag will be shaken once he passes five yards to give someone else a tap in rather than trying to score with his wrong peg whilst stood on the byline! Nothing to do with past reputation for me.

If Sturridge was called Sturrinho (cliche, I know) he would be rated more. I still cannot believe the lad doesn't have a song, how much more prolific does he have to be before he is truly rated as a striker?

  18. This argument really does bug me. By saying they would be rated more if they had a foreign name it is also effectively saying they should be rated higher because they are English!

Sturridge has been excellent. I couldn't give a flying **** if he is English, French, Jewish or a ****ing yank (<laugh>), he just not as good as the old Torres...yet!

Only thing that bothers me is there seems to be double standards here - when Torres was closing in on the fastest 50 it was a massive deal (as it should be) and we were all RAVING - now that Sturridge is closing in on it we start looking at 'factors' like who he is playing with and how many goals we are scoring....Just didn't see any of this when Torres was doing it.

Perhaps it is part of the reason he is doing so well though - the fact he isn't a crowd favourite and hero keeps his feet on the ground maybe.
