Not interesting imo, just bollocks. When you think about our best players of the past thirty odd years, you think Keane, Scholes, Cantona, Ronaldo, Giggs. Of those, only Ronaldo is measured by number of goals scored, and even then not in such a blunt manner - he was the best player in the PL and 2nd best in the world in the 08/09 season despite only getting 18 goals in the league. No one has any problem objectively recognising Keane as one of the greatest players of the PL era, and absolutely deserving of the British transfer record, ditto Bryan Robson. And no one in their right mind would claim Bergkamp was a flop despite breaking the British record and never scoring more than 20 goals in a league season. Was Zidane a world record flop because he never scored more than 12 goals in a season (in all competitions no less) for Real? Or Figo with his career best record of ten goals in a league season? If a pundit genuinely claims they can't judge the impact of a midfielder, other than by the goals they have scored, then they are basically admitting they know nothing about football.
I don't think the club needs to justify that expenditure. Sure they'll get a ribbing and there will be lots of hilarity and Mickey taking if the title is not won but the reality is that the executive and the GGs have now decided on a MO which competes with Real and other top clubs on a financial basis as well as on the pitch. Of course the two are linked but it now seems that United are embarking on a path of acquiring the most expensive players.
So, has he completed his medical? Or he failed it because he's been partying in Miami for the past two weeks?
If Pogba signs, it increases your club's status around the world after being in the shadows of Real and Barca for the best part of half a dozen years with the obvious result of increased shirt sales. Who in their right mind would have wanted to buy any United shirt bearing the name of any player United have fielded these past 6 years when you can simply buy a Barca shirt with Messi or Neymar on the back. Likewise with Real and Ronaldo.
Real and Barca are still ahead in terms of worldwide popularity. You guys haven't got a player yet who is as marketable as the Barca guys and Real's own crown jewels but that may change in the coming weeks but at this moment, no!!
Ibra is a has been in global terms. Miki might be a good player, Pogba has got that presence that is highly marketable, not only in a footballing sense but also off the pitch.
Sorry but I have to disagree on Pogba, I just don't see random people around the world going out to buy a United shirt with Pogba on it, I can see it happening with Ibra. The players you mention from other clubs all have something that most don't, I noticed you never named Bale or Suarez and think that was a subconscious choice because you know that as good as they are they just don't have the extra bit that sells shirts to floaters.
Exactly!! If your club ever signed Harry Kane, I think shirt sales for United shirts would rocket through the strastosphere. Simply because he is British and is highly marketable , much more so than Ibra. Not to mention that he is a good player that England have yet to get the best out of. Though it will be interesting how much game time Rashford gets before United ever consider that particular route.
You are missing the whole thing completely here, the nationality of a player means little, United (and other British clubs) will always sell shirts in Britain and these sales will rise and fall dependant on team success. The main rise in shirt sales are around the world and are increased greatly by individual players, more so than the team in most cases.
Harry Kane is about as marketable as Pob. He looks weird, talks weird and was ****ing useless in Euro2016. No one outside of the Spurs family is remotely interested in him.
England were useless. Spain were useless. Doesn't stop others being interested in the likes of Nolito. Where did he get a transfer to?
I was referring to shirt sales around the world and would imagine in the past few years United's shirt sales have fallen behind those of Barca and Real for those very reasons. I wouldn't mind betting that sales of Barca shirts is second in the UK. Lets hope Barca win the Champions League again so that the glory hunters in the South can finally dispense with their cheap Chelsea shirts and look decent in those of a great team.
