Because we signed a contract with em. If we want people like Morgan and Shaw (when he finally signs) to stay loyal when there is better offer elsewhere then we as a club have to do our bit when they have a year or two left on theirs.
I agree . If you sign and the club make it clear later that you are no longer required , why the hell should YOU take a pay cut ?
For a player to be sold someone has to come in for them or they hand in a transfer/loan request. We can't end a players contract unless they want to go. The loyalty thing is a nice idea but we wouldn't be keeping around 10 players on the books, who will never play for us in the prem, just to set a nice example.
Don't forget lads this is NA ,s squad that MP inherited so we must judge him on a full season with his team ,also take note of AF at Man u ,consistency is vital with patience needed ,summer transfers should be interesting and I for one can't wait for new season ,let's hope fixture computer is kinder with the start though
I am excited about next season to see what Mauricio can do after a preseason and getting in his own signings. I think he has done well coming in half way through and working with the present team, though I do think many suit his style. We have proved to be capable of giving anyone a game and are hard to beat..turn some of those draws into wins and we'd be right up the table. Remember MP was learning this season and, apart from the language, has shown himself to be a quick learner.
Despite my quite positive leanings towards the prospects of the team and Pochettino, I'm quite cautious as to what they'll achieve next season. 2nd season blues are no myth and every other club knows what you're capable of now, and Saints have to be better. I don't really know the answer, apart from throwing a great deal of money at the problem, because this is where it gets expensive. By the way, nice to see you back Fran. I was so astonished to see your legendary post count that I had to do a little calculation. It has been 840 days since the 1st of Feb 2011, which means that you've made at least just over 22 posts per day, since then. How do you do it..???
Everyone keeps remarking about our squad and it not being MP's but i don't think anyone has said the squad isn't good enough. I believe that us fans have become attached to our players and rightly so as we have been on a hell of a journey together. I know there are certain players that we would like to see replaced and forgetting about our central defensive frailties how would the fans feel if MP felt he needed to replace the likes of Lallana, Lambert and Cork to progress. Firstly would the fans be happy with these players warming the bench and secondly would these players be happy on the bench or look to ply their trade elsewhere.
I don't see Jack Cork lining the bench any time soon. His partnership with Morgan was pivotal to our season. I take the point though.
It's possible all 3 of Lambert, Lallana and Cork could drop out of our first choice 11 next year. I don't think it's very likely that they ALL will, but I almost expect one or two of them to be replaced given the signings we've been linked with. Lallana hasn't had a great season so someone like Lens would probably displace him and if we signed Wanyama, Cork would probably be the man to make way.
women are born with so many words in their brain....we have to use them all before we die. Men are born with small spaces in their brains that need to be filled. I am trying to do my bit!
The squad will naturally evolve and as we try and push ourselves and get better, players will fall by and we've already seen it with Hammond, Fox, Richardson, Chaplow etc Davies is now a squad player, Fonte has struggled to hold his place & Lallana is looking vulnerable. I expect us to sign a player to challenge Cork & Schneiderlin as well as Lambert.
Good point Kitch. I have in the past said that although I defend the players to the hilt, we do/will need to improve some of our favourite players to really progress.
