bang on with that point. as you say, its not morisons fault - he is doing his job well. this may sound odd, but i'm not convinced hoolahan will be starting the next match
If we could get Holt or C. Martin to pass like Hoolahan it'd be problem solved! Mind you, they would then be worth quite a few million more!!!
just to add to that, its also the responsibility of the wide men to feature in the box, as well as one of the midfield breakers, be it johnson, hoolahan, fox... you need midfield runners for the system to work. there is NO perfect formula, but the 4-5-1/4-3-3 is certainly the most popular at the moment and is pretty exciting to watch. 4-4-2 is a little bit flat most of the time and the diamond relies on your full backs too much
Yes you do I bet you have a shrine in your wardrobe fanboy. His a forward his supposed to be in box in my opinion, Jan Koller used to play as a lone forward for the Czech Republic but he would rarely drift out wide, isn't that what your WINGERS are for? Also last season Holt had another forward beside him?
well if your idea of a quality centre forward is jan koller then i think i may understand why you don't rate morison!! did that man ever move more than five yards in any match? absolutely atrocious comparison and an utterly stupid debate to be having
That's what he is told to do probably. Holds the ball up for others. As has been said he's been doing a great job. Morison doesn't go out wide too often but there has been plenty in the box for him to cross to Surprised you're not annoyed with holt when he goes back to defend. Strikers arent supposed to do that (I have no problem with holt defending myself). Also Morison has scored the same number goals in the premiership for norwich as Torres has for Chelsea. He's done this despite playing fewer premiership games, he hasn't the won the world cup and doesn't have world class service.
thai hope you are feeling a bit better about things now obviously i don't want to have a massive falling out with northants but i get the distinct impression that he is one of those fans who decide that whatever a certain player does its wrong - they can do no right in their eyes. ruddy has been targeted before and also russell martin before him. if i'm incorrect about that then fair enough, sorry northants, but quite why morison is the target of your attention i have no idea. he's been excellent for us so far, excellent, and has been a brilliant signing
It's the nature of the beast on forums. One poor sod on the QPR board has taken a real pasting this week from just about all the others because his posts are anti Colin, or pro someone else etc They all think he is a wum but he might actually be geniune, but that's the QPR board for you - guilty if not in the majority. Anyway, I digress.................Morison As a lone striker he is far more effective than when playing in the 4-4-2 and perhaps this has helped Northants to form his opinion. Against Villa the focus up front was not just him so looked less effective - perhaps I am only clutching at straws to defend him though
thai, i'm not sure holty can fit into our team anymore. not full stop, i just mean from the start. do you reckon like me, that he'd be better off simply as an impact player, brought off the bench in the closing stages? its worked a treat so far. he just doesn't quite offer as much as morison although i believe he is a better finisher. all-round game though, morison takes the prizes. 4-4-2 doesn't work for me anymore as i mentioned earlier in the thread - it lacks the flexibility of the 4-3-3/4-5-1 and though people may moan when they see only one man up front before kick off, you actually end up playing three up front most of the game. the diamond certainly doesn't work in this league as its too easy to counteract but of course it does mean that playing one up top won't allow holt to feature! lots of options for the manager though which is great for him!!
I have two options - away games we play 1 up front and if fit that should be Moro. At home I would like to see the 4-4-2 tried out to see it's effectiveness at home and hoped to see it against Blackburn. Moro +1. Who that +1 is I am not sure, perhaps Jacko but agreed Holty to come on as and when needed to change a game or try to. Maybe he could try 90 minutes in the 4-4-2 for a couple of games and see if it can work. Would like to see him banging them in every 2 games again, maybe only 1 in 3 this season
Despite their combination for the goal against Villa, Holt/Morison doesn't quite work for me. I'd quite like to see how Morison and C. Martin could combine at some point. That's not a call to change things now, you understand, just I'd be interested to see if one would provide a good foil for the other.
i'd rather jackson instead of martin exile. his pace will give as an extra dimension to our attack. i really think he could do well at this level so i'm slightly disappointed he has barely featured so far
It's all about form. Morison was in and Holt was out as Morison was doing really well. Holt performed well as a sub so Lambert decided rather than play just the one to play two strikers doing well. Unfortuantly our formation had to be changed and that's where we suffered. I say stick with the 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 and keep Morison starting. Holt is doing a brilliant job off the bench. If Holt starts doing better than Morison, start with Holt and bring Morison on as a sub. If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.
Look at his international scoring record in comparison to Morisons? Not saying he should mimic Koller as a player, just pointing out how a lone forward should work, another example look at Klose for Germany his always around the box, Podolski and Mueller keep out wide where they should be and cut inwards when they have possession, Klose is there where you want him if your midfielder. If your a lone forward then you should keep where you can receive the ball in a decent position. I couldn't give a toss if no-one likes my opinion of Morison I'm not a fan at the moment so tough ****, before people bracket me in that group of fans who get's on players backs I supported Ruddy whilst he was torn to pieces by City fans last season. As for tactical side of the game he should play as a lone forward but that's because Holt would struggle with the pace, the only reason why we should use just one player up front is because our midfield is strong and we can get the best out of creative players.
