Is our squad actually that bad?

For me it would be completely the other way round. Russell Martin is an excellent defender, and I couldn't see Clyne or Fonte getting in any of there teams over then probably Wigans for Caldwell and Ramis who both look out of there depth massively. The same could probably be said for Hoover and Fonte. I think Fox has had some harsh criticism so far and has been nowhere near as bad as people have said.

You guys joke about Surman, but did you watch the Norwich game on Sat? He was absolutely class! He almost was a one man team!

Agree with this Dan! Harte has lost any speed he had. Good at set pieces but little else.

I'm not so sure. Look at the Reading back 4: Gunter - not a bad player but no world beater; Pearce - Decent player who has matured well, but still nothing special; Gorkss - bit of a carthorse really and only just about adequate; Harte - incredibly slow and gets turned over by any sort of pace. It's at best compable to our defence and we make up by having a much better midfield and attack. All of the other sides in the OP will probably get a drubbing at the Emirates too.

The whole of our team is on a big learning curve. In pre-season, we played a team who weren't good enough in Wolves and battered them with half of our key players rested. Different kettle of fish I know, but it's clear that we definately are good enough. Getting to grips with the new system will take a bit of practice, but will be worth it in the long run. It's vital that we stick with Adkins as he's a fantastic manager who is the spearhead of all the positive work the team is doing. We will be back in January for the players we missed out on in the summer, so it's so important that we don't do anything rash to upset the balance becauuse we didn't sign a certain player that we'd hoped to.

In all honesty I think I would rather have Pearce in that either of our Centre Backs (Fonte/Jos). I think he's quite under-rated and was excellent last season. There were question marks over our defence in the Championship so the fact we've only bought in one defender is surprising. We NEED Yoshida to be very, very good.

You just need to put Snodgrass in for one of the Surmans and you're good.

I think you'll find 95% of us agree with that post... I don't know why you think we're all disillusioned thinking that our defence would control every striker in the world, just because we don't all go on and on and on about something that can't be changed until January.

Its the 'I told you so' quotes that I find the most tedious. You are not telling us something new, you're just banging on about it, waiting for the next defeat to confirm your opinion, its madness, we know what you think now, stop bleating on about it!

Dont think for a second I want us to lose to prove a point , I would happily be wrong so we could stay up , my pride is not what drives me writing on here , boredom mainly...............................

As we have all said several times. We have what we have until january! Yes in an ideal world I'd like more CB's but life is never perfect. We have an amazing front line and will beat a lot of sides this season.

Pearce is good, but my point is that the other 3 are all fairly average and Ian Harte would be a L1 player if it wasn't for his left foot. As a collective, they're not that good. Our team is a lot stronger than it was last season and apart from one star striker, theirs isn't really.

The same can be said of the other two promoted clubs regarding experience.

Not with West Ham, us and Reading are both doing poor at the moment and West Ham are doing well. Plus Allardyce has managed in the Premiership before, the other two managers haven't.

I think everyone by now knows your not happy with the defence, very few are but nothing can be done until Jan. Obviously there was noone that fitted the bill or they were unwilling to come here. No one on here seriously believes that we will keep many clean sheets. just enjoy the ride and hope we have something up our sleeves for January. Looking forward to Yoshi bringing out the best in Fonte

In regards to clean sheets, Norwich didn't keep one until January last season. They finished twelth.
