Barton, a passionate engine with it all to prove over the next four years... a handful of prem-blooded oldies to underpin our survival... some talented youngsters coming through... and the guts of our Championship-winning side as back-up... Wow! If you'd have suggested all that at any time over the close season, I'd have called you a Wubba-ite and had you certified! I for one await with baited breath as this latest chapter unfolds. Morals, eh? Standards, who needs them? Unfortunately we all suffer from them. Some peopleâs are ârelaxableâ when it comes to football, otherâs are not, most just get eroded with time. My attitude towards Mr Barton will get eroded if he behaves himself on and off the field of play, but will get re-enforced at the slightest hint of a misdemeanour. I know that your attitude towards these idiots on the GC board will not. From previous conversations on the causes of the riots etc., I know how strongly you feel about these issues. Personally I am so impressed with the quality of posters that we have on the QPR board. I wouldnât have bothered starting this thread on other forums Iâve been on. Elsewhere I would have just received a catalogue of abuse, here we got some well reasoned arguments both agreeing and disagreeing with my point of view. However, for me, the important point is that I had no hesitation in starting the thread, despite the general âfeel goodâ mood towards Barton that persisted when I first posted it. I know that there is no point telling you to ignore it, so as I see it, if Mick wonât stop these idiots, we have two choices. First, we can all up sticks and go somewhere else. Iâve no idea where, maybe we would have to look at the possibility of starting our own forum, Iâm sure that most would follow, but that smacks of papering over the cracks, and could become too anodyne. The second is that we try to educate the idiots. I would guess that this would be your preferred approach. So Iâm offering my services, whenever you feel it is getting out of hand on the GC board, send out a SOS. If Iâm on-line Iâll do what I can to restore sanity. If I read this forum correctly, others will too. As you have said to me before, it is a football forum, what do you expect?
Sadly, I think you're wasting your time with the General Chat idiots, they've been with this site a lot longer and see the BBC 'invaders' as intruding on their unsavoury territory which, perhaps, explains why they sabotage any threads that include that classification. You have to ask why the owners permit such rubbish to be posted as they are such a minority on here now. I just ignore that classification now, which is a shame, as there are some topics that could generate excellent discussions amongst all supporters/readers in general. As for the subject matter, football has been morally bankrupt for years from the owners downwards, to support any team you have to accept the worst aspects of human nature are often possessed by the most talented players who's adulation and notoriety makes them even worse, Balotelli being the most recent example.
FOOTNOTE Visited the mod board last night. There was a second thread on GC on the go. Whilst the general advice both there and here is to ignore the 'place' there was also criticism of people speaking about the principles without actually having a look for themselves... The titles on page one looked reasonable. On page two one stood out immediately. A multi-page thread subtley entitled, 'A Hate Fenians'... that had eventually been closed. As for content, not a hint of a post encouraging reason, just page after page of one side of the sectarian divide abusing and/or provoking the other - the vast majority in grotesque or 'nationalistic' photo images. Meanwhile on the QPR board, as this thread makes clear, we step carefully in our analysis of club performance for fear of being accused of being negative! In having allowed a gross sectarian thread (one of many I dare say) to continue before closing BUT not deleting it, what is this site saying if not ANYTHING goes? Whilst football already has a reputation for accommodating mindless morons, something that's mercifully fairly well contained on here... not606 continues to do the other thing. Right AND wrong.
