he trace the ball back and keep closing down players , he has awesome work rate which is one of his main quality and one of the main reasons why Jose want him

That set-up looks seriously weak defensively down the right to counterattacks. Someone like Hazard would run amok against that set-up imo.

Don't see how it's a panic buy, clearly improves our team and is currently available would have been a ridiculous move not to buy him.

A better question is who else was there to buy anyway? Just like last summer with Fellaini

that is bcz it is what you offered him when you signed him, if you had to offer him new contract, he would had asked from something between 100-150k anyway
Hazard is in 185k , so what else you expect 2 times Chelsea player of season will get?

Exactly, the post I made about Negredo was conveniently ignored by everyone.

Can someone, anyone, explain why us buying a player to fill a position we need to strengthen is any different to any club buying a player for a position where they need to strengthen?

Why is it panic for us and reinforcement for others?

Why wasn't RVP deemed a panic buy last year? Why wasn't Phil Jones deemed a panic buy? Those, off the top of my head, are two players who were bought to strengthen the squad, which is EXACTLY THE SAME as us buying Mata.

Forgive me for saying this but, you bunch of ****ing idiots.

this is why I said in some matches we may opt for a 2nd CM to cover up by replacing Valencia with a CM
but in general i see us playing this setup in 90% of matches

    Boo Hoo <wah>

Mata is a panic buy if you're really spending that much in wages on a chavski bench player <whistle> RVP wasn't a panic buy but he was certainly a short term one, it was a signing to grab Fergie a final title (and a stroke of genius from his point of view). It was however a signing that yet again failed to address your midfield issues, it was a signing that (quite possibly like the Mata one will prove) papered over the big cracks in the squad. Fair to say Mata will give you a boost but IMO you will still need to strengthen elsewhere too.

Who the **** made you a mod btw?? <laugh> Eric would've been better.

So, to sum up. Mata addresses a position we needed to address yet remains a panic buy.

Because you and various others say so.

Thanks for clearing that one up. <ok>

Can we now move on? How about another conundrum no one will agree on, how about you all define 'world class' now that you've so clearly bottomed out 'panic'?

    Cheers.

I like how he just wrote that, yeah he improves your team but yeah still a panic buy. Ermmm ok say any player bought ever to improve a team is a panic buy?

Its the most obvious transfer around if he's available couldn't really be any less of a panic buy.

The panic buy bit had a whistley face thus wasn't serious <grr> Does modding dissolve ones brain and sense of humour THAT quickly??

Now put your handbags away girls and read the rest of my post :) Good signing but not the only one you need, not a panic buy unless that's blown your whole transfer/wage budget blah blah blah

    Still a chavski bench player/reject though <whistle>

Its got Valencia in it which is the problem. The rest are footballers, Valencia is not. Its like sticking a big dirty brick among diamonds.

Manchester has officially the highest rate of burglary but having been "ripped a new one " over the price of Mata , Chelsea have to be listed as the biggest rip off theft merchants. Would S.A.F. secured a better deal I wonder ......or looked elsewhere?

    Simply put. No.

This is a position we clearly need to strengthen in. Sure we have Rooney and RvP with some good attacking midfielders but essentially we still play 442. Mata changes all that. We cant play him in a 442 so the idea must be to implement a new system.

    Long overdue I say.

Mata can play anywhere behind the striker, this myth that hes not as good out wide is complete tosh. He played the roll to brilliant effect in Spain. Stick him left or right and he'll do well, its not as if hes going to be hugging the touchline ala Valencia but more like an AM/IF that cuts in and allows us to play down the middle.

Last season we played down the middle, to great effect.

So while Mata is not a CM, hes the creativity we need, the first step towards a more modern ideology at United. Kagawa should have been that step but unfortunately hasnt shown enough yet. Those suggesting players will have to be dropped for Mata... again, nonsense. Rooney, RvP, Mata can all play in the same side. One of Kagawa, Januzaj or Nani as the other player. Young and Valencia as plan B, desperation time.

Also, Mata will not be the only signing of the window.

He'd have paid the same, considering its SAF who has dealt with this transfer.

    Next <ok>

    Stop being dicks.
It's not a panic buy, its a reinforcement.
They have been trying to sign him for months.....how does that make it panic.
Surely a panic buy is buying someone you didnt particularly want at the last minute because the person you actually wanted wasnt available (like when we signed Eto'o because we couldnt get Rooney, although we technically didnt "buy" Eto'o)
If they have been trying to sign him since June it doesnt really count as a panic buy.

Will it solve all of Uniteds problems? No! Their main problem lies in DM and box to box CM positions and CB.
But will he improve the squad they have? Undoubtedly, so panic buy or not, its a good move for United.
Still think they will fail to get top 4 though. <whistle>
Personally I think Moyes would have been better off focusing on areas which are more of a problem.
