That is of course if shearer feels that his incredible ability is above that required by the cardiff board.
I am actually a little disappointed at hearing Alan Shearer linked to the vacant Cardiff position. I think he is invaluable to the Match of the Day team.
There are lies, damned lies and statistics. Win percentages don't take into account the strength of a squad available to a manager (and we all know that fluctuates wildly) or finances (which recent years have shown fluctuate wildly also). Further, they don't take into account the way the style of football that the team plays: I, for one, would take a few more losses in a season of entertaining football instead of a few more wins from a hoofball team (within reason, of course: I wouldn't take relegation nor forego promotion!) In my opinion, and it seems this is one I share with most of you, Mackay has done a good job and is a good manager. However, I certainly wouldn't use the word 'great', which is perhaps the most abused word in modern sport; he's got plenty of potential and could well end up managing in the Premiership, although he's a relative novice with much to learn. But the wrong move for a manager can have a devastating effect on his career, so Mackay needs to think carefully about his next move. Some opportunities are just too good to pass up and I think we as fans are realistic about that. It's just that Cardiff isn't one such opportunity. Dave Jones was sacked for losing in the play-offs; foreign owners in English football are, by and large, impatient and interfering; and Cardiff have lost their best four attacking players (Bellamy, Bothroyd, Chopra and Burke) for just over £1m. I can't be alone in thinking that taking the helm there would be akin to jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. If he were to leave us, I wouldn't blame him, as I've said before. Yet I would hope he would do so at the right time, in the right manner, for the right club. I don't think those criteria are satisfied just yet.
Well - good or not - we will soon find out if he is honourable - signs a 3 year contract and two months later ?????
Probably an unpopular opinion but the only differences I see between this and the Rodgers saga was the 'Integrity' comment and the fact Rodgers had history with Reading.... Am disappointed Malky pushed to speak with them after our rejection!
Rodgers had history with reading and a good reason to move there as it was in his blood. Malky and Cardiff have no history, its purely prostitution in my book, if he takes his bag of silver I will take pleasure in his hopeful failure there. Sour grapes, yes, I don't like misjudging characters and IF malky goes I've missed the goal by a mile with judgement here.
Aberdeen, you're not the only one!! I thought the whole Burnley thing proved he is happy to wait for a big move, but obviously not!
Well quite honestly, the fact that Malky has asked to speak means he's good as gone - even if he turns it down he'll have a very hard time winning us over now (unless he comes out with a statement to the effect that 'I never intended to take it - it was an elaborate plot to undermine them') On the subject of a replacement - I don't think we should go for anyone currently employed as a) it's all very unseemly and b) we cant afford the compo.
... unless F1Hornet was right and Malky is using this as a way of coming back to the Board and saying - get me some players or I will have to go
Malky is clearly not Cardiff's first choice and that must hurt him at least a little. I thought he was worth a shout in the Prem, but I'm clearly wrong there as he hasn't been linked to Villa, birmingham or Forest. So being "sloppy 2nd" at Cardiff behind a "sofa sop" and Shearer isn't even 1st choice on the comfy sofa is Malky's status. I'm honestly not sure if that is indicative of Malky's status or Watford's status or a bit of both, but either which way its quite insulting IMHO. So its now up to Baz to deliver a successful solution, is he up to it?
This is where you hope Bas goes to GT for advice about Malky's successor! I think one of the biggest things we will miss is Malky's relationship with some of the big Premiership bosses!
I think it would be amusing if he went only to find out that Cardiff suffer from similar problems to those he experiences here, i.e. lack of funds and uncertain relations with the owners. Not saying that will happen, but it would be a delicious irony.
I hope if he goes to Cardiff he has a really tough time and they get relegated - one less place for us to occupy
