Preben Elkjaer Larsen for Demark was a top drawer striker and as you say Laudrup was magnificent.

Was that the last good WC?

He was top drawer. Not going to google, but from memory the Danes whooped someone by 5 or 6 in the group stages and then lost to a similar amount in the second round. Odd team.

They has Jesper Olsen too who was as good a winger in the 1st Division at the time plus Soren Lerby

They got their come-uppance against Spain I believe?

One of those teams who peaked too early.

Can you believe Damian Delaney has the same profession as this bloke had?

The Leeds mods have removed one and i've removed three others, if you've come here to debate fair enough. If you've come here to post blogs across the site then no. Thanks

Ronaldo, Messi...are you on drugs. They're not even close. I never saw him live, but I've seen clips of George Best doing things these boys couldn't even dream of doing in their wildest wet dreams. And this in an age when defenders could get away with being be real thugs.

Exhibit one...

Throw in Di Stefano, Puskas, Edwards, Garrincha, Meredith, Eusebio, Bunn, Cruyff, Platini, Askew, Maradona, Charlton, Zico, Matthews and then just maybe you can start talking Messi.

Ronaldo is just a really good player who is also a fine athlete. He isn't anything exceptional like those listed above.

For pure entertainment and brilliance in changing the outcome of a game, I'd say George Best. As H, H & H says in the previous post, he could take the piss out of some of the best & hardest defenders that ever lived. And that was when he was hungover. George "Hey ref., can you send me off for something I'm thinking ?". Ref " No George, I can't". George "Well ref., I think you're a cnut !". He may have scored a hat-trick in that game.

Thanks for posting that video HHH, It's always nice to be reminded how much of a genius he was. When he had the ball at his feet he was a genius and if you noticed in the vid how there was always more than one man on him. His balance was superb, how many times did he get clattered in the vid and still kept on his feet and more times than not he kept the ball. As I said in a previous post, I think he could hack it in todays game and God knows how much he'd be worth in todays money.

Pure genius!!

Greatest player ever? No! There is no way to compare players across generations as rule changes over the years have made players softer, but in this current generation of players he is, only Ronaldo is close to him in terms of skill. However not watching football on a regular basis isn't helping my ability to say who is close.

my favorite players of all time come from the 70s and 80s but i suspect none of them would get in a current world XL down to fitness and other silly statistical anomalies

Maradonna
Van Basten
Zinadingadan
Cantonna
Beardsley
Dalglish
Robertson

People like to say Ronaldo is better than Messi to look clever and have the different opinion, however it is clear for everyone to see Messi is so much naturally better than Ronaldo. He makes it look piss easy. I have no idea if he is the best player ever as I wasn't around to see the other 'greats' But I find it hard to imagine anyone better.
