Good point, and not sure of the answer. We did at the time, but there’s just two of us now. That’s the headline speed, but it never achieves it in tests.
I'm on the full fibre 100. I can be streaming on the TV, scrolling on my phone and two kids watching their tablets all at the same time with absolutely no problems. Also hearing lots of negatives about some of the competition.
Just asked as I have full fibre 175 with .kCOM previously had SKY 150, and the two of us run ipads and have SKY glass which brings the picture via broadband in 4K and it is plenty fast enough. Either of those are under £30.
The speeds will be much improved using an ethernet cable. But that is not exactly wifi, before the pedants descend. If where you live has been transformed into a forest of poles, or reps calling to sell you theirservice, get in touch with Kcom and ask if they are willing to move on their price. Just done a speed test, same room. Ethernet cable connected pc, very fast. Mobile, fast. The pc is 4 times faster.
with you on cables. my wifi's only on for my phone and if i turn a tablet on. big difference between cabled and uncabled speeds. unfortunately the built-in lan cable socket on my laptop failed with use (mechanically, not electronically - it couldn't hold the socket in place) and i had to get a usb one. it's not so bad and has 3 usb ports as a bonus. i have a couple of 1gb 8-port switches that allow as big a network as most home users will ever need. the tv is in the same room as the router, so gets served direct. i connected an ssd to the router as a handy place to put files i wanted to copy from one pc to another, but the ssd failed. the only one so far. i still have a couple of 100mb switches and might set up a low-speed network for my older pcs, but might not connect it to the world.
Introductory offers are usually going to be very good , look at what you'll be paying after the first 12 months or whatever the initial contract is
Try ringing KCOM and telling them you are thinking about leaving due to price, I did last week and they agreed to drop from £70 to £46, and that’s for there fastest deal. Could have got it a bit cheaper for less speed.
Yeah, someone from Beebu rang me today. It would be £29 for 1000mbps (or think it was £25 for 300). With extensions and conservatories, I guess the range is quite large and we do use a lot of devices.
I don’t really know the answer to this debate, although I am still KCOM after negotiating a price reduction a year ago. Everything does stuff I need it to do. I often hear of companies moving to Hull because the broadband speeds are the fastest in the UK though. Particularly digital types, manipulating lots of videos. Whether business speeds are different, or other providers are catching up though, I don’t really know.
You know you can ring sky up when the contract is coming to an end and they’ll keep applying a similar offer price? The ‘rrp’ is only for people that don’t bother to.
As far as I can work out it's not allowed, certainly if you were charged with speeding just after the sign I would say fight it and you will get off. The laws on speeding and speed limit signs say they must not be obscured. The laws on placing of poles for Internet companies are much more grey, they no longer need planing permission but after that no one seems to know.
KCOM called me recently, offering to install full fibre right to the house for free, reduce my monthly bill and increase my download speeds tenfold.
